Hey guys,
Looks like my soarer is starting to show signs that its probably been in an acca, although it doesn't bother me, i want this car medium to long term.
Paint has started peeling off the bonnet and driver's door. It started off very small and unnoticeable, but it's turned into a cancer and has revealed transit primer underneath. My question is: Until I can afford a respray on the bonnet and door, is there some sort of film or tape I can put over the problem spots to stop this disease getting any worse?
Thanks in advance for your help guys!

I have the same problem on the roof of my Soarer. What at first were a few odd felcks of paint coming off now looks more like gravel rash. I've talked with professional re-sprayers but they all say something like "Ah, yeah, but then we have to include the rear pillers, then the rear sides......etc etc yahda yahda yahda (and a few minutes later they finish with) so we're looking at THOUSANDS to get it sorted". I'm hoping to get just the roof itself (and rear pillers) and get the paint blended in at the top of the rear side panels but (apart from having no money at present) I'm still not absolutely sure whether this is the best way to go.
I'm on the Sunshine Coast, anyone know of a decent spray painter who is flexible in his approach?
By the way, I don't know if anyone's already had a thread about this but I wouldn't recomend having the nose cone thingy repainted. I had mine done by a so-called professional and the thing has blistered badly.

yeah, the rounded part that is made of sosme kind of hard rubberised plastic. It's got the Soarer emblem on it.
I thought it was plastic and when I was trying to 'tidy it up' a couple of years ago, I filled in an area that was lower than the rest of that area and then using an electric sander, I sanded it back. Lo and behold, when I then checked the level, it was lower than it should be. 'Strange' thought the amateur from Blighty, so he shoved in a bit more filler, sanded it down and...What?! Lower still?
I didn't know it at the time but the heat from the sander was melting the (let's call it a nosecone for want of the right word) nosecone.
So, in the end I had the choice of getting a replacement from a Soarer breakers or getting my stuffed one repaired. The bloke at the plastic repairer said 'no problems' and a few days later I seemed to have the problem sorted. But now, a couple of years later, it's worse than before.
It'll teach me for being so smug. I thought this job had been well within my capabilities coz I've done a bit of fibreglassing etc. Just shows how pride can come before a fall.

You certainly have to be careful when working on plastic panels on cars (bumers etc.), especially when doing anything that generates heat eg. Polishing/sanding. The plastic doesnt conduct the heat away in the same manner as a metal panel does and it is really easy burn the paint, twist the paint (yes Ive seen it happen) and in worst case as youve seen Tref actually distort the panel itself. Just something you have to be aware of.

Hello! i have noticed that after giving my car a good wash my paint looks pants (bad) stone chips and scrathes all over. What i would like to know is do any of you wonderful soarer club members know how much does it cost to get a full respray done?? my soarer is red and looks great till you get up close. so i want the paint to look fantastic from a distance and right up close.
