I'm guessing that the pillar was originally designed to be a bright S/S look and then someone changed the spec to paint. Toyota/Lexus when designing their rival to the European Marques went to considerable effort to limit and prevent metal corrosion.

Ok well as you know I bought a second soarer for parts and so I tryed this technique. Used paint stripper which revealed a chromey silver with a dull finish.
To make it look like the stock V8 trim around the windows this dull finish under the black paint would have to be sanded back a little bit to reveal and expose a nice sexy shiny silver after cleaning.
Are you talking about the surround Joshua or the B pillar? My b pillar come up real shiny when I removed the paint. As for the surround I don't think it's stainless underneath unless what I have unearthed is a layer of primer but I don't see why they would have primered the surround and not the b pillar.

yeah I've tried the same thing on the surround (not the middle black part) but i think they are not stainless steel and they came out grey. can it be sanded to expose as like the result of stainless steel?

I didn't need to polish my b pillar, it came out real shiney. I also stripped the surround and I exposed what could be primer but no matter how much stripper I put on it, it didn't come off. I personally think it's a bit much for a green soarer but will look good on some cars.
