Lambourghini (if that's the correct spelling) used these doors for their Countache (again, probably wrong spelling) cars as well as the Diablo etc, they used to be called 'Gullwing' when Mercedes used them back in the 50's (I think) but basically, they hinge upwards rather than sideways as per your typical car. Maybe it's me but the Soarer is such a fantastic car, gorgeous looking after all these years and very well engineered- it just seems such a pointless exercise to take that design and play around with it for the sake of a bit of 'flash'-especially when, from the car on the move, it doesn't actually appear any different. But again, it may be just me. I've got boring in my old age? (don't actually answer that one)

Lamborghini doors are just adding characteristic and uniqueness to the car.. thats why people like myself are putting it on their soarer. i am building my soarer as a custom show car! and will be selling it once finished as i have no room for it and have to leave it at the factory everynight and day! once completed i will be advertising it here on soarercentral and ofcourse on carsales!!

Lamborghini doors were meant for Lamborghinis. Really not suitable to my tastes on a Soarer, but to each his own.

Lamborghini Countach had scissor doors which are different from the gull wing doors on the 1950s Mercedes 300SL. Conventional doors are hinged on a vertical axis at the front (or on old cars or the MX-8, the rear) and swing in a horizontal arc in the ground plane. Scissor doors are hinged on a horizontal axis at the front and swing vertically, with the rear of the door rising in an arc toward the front of the car. Gull wing doors are hinged horizontally along the axis of the roof line and thus swing about the car's longitudinal axis, rising in an arc toward the centreline of the car and presumably looking vaguely like a gull when seen from the front or rear with both doors open. A problem with both scissor and gull wing designs is getting out of the car in a rollover. In a standard car there should normally be one door clear. Search on Google Images for Countach and 300SL

The problem with scissor doors and the Soarer is that the Soarer does not have slab doors. It just doesn't look good when you have non-slab doors swinging around like that. Too much bulk, and the window frame ends up sitting so high in the air with the door open, it's just ridiculous.

| As Stephen has said (above), I prefer my Soarer/SC300/SC400 as the manufacturer intended them. BUT, I totally respect others desire to modify their cars to be a "Statement". If you like the idea of exclusivity.........then GO for the Lambo conversion! "Vive la difference"

I guess it will be easier to get in and out of the car. I hate it when passengers scrape the door on the side walk. And the Soarer doors don’t open much either. They are massive lumps of steel. Like a friggen airplane door (hehehe). But I guess the size and shape of the doors are needed to suite the sleek, long shape of the car.

Hehe, some late model Lamborghinis are known for being kinda tricky to get into and out of, partly because the cars are low slung. But their doors are designed to fully open. The problem with retro fitted Lambo doors is that on some cars the doors do not give as much of an opening, and the hinge can be quite heavy (can't vouch for this kit). But you avoid the problem of being stuck inside when there would normally be no room to open the door (the passenger doesn't scrape the door on the sidewalk, grrrr) and our door hinges already weigh 5kg each.

Having attempted to get in and out of Lambo copies (some of them really excellent copies at that) a few years ago in the UK. I found that the doors were always at eye height when open-perfect for losing an eye if you (or a passenger) are having one of 'those' days. I also found the damn things never shut properly and, having heard the ramblings of a friend who almost went out of his mind trying to make 'em fit, I personally wouldn't buy them. But again, it's great to be different so all power to those that bite the bullet and install them!

Scissor-doors are attached at the ordinary point, and open upwards. Gull-wing doors are attached both at the ordinary point and also at the top of the A-Pillar. The Toyota Sera has a similar cult following as the Soarer, and it had Gullwings. Observe http://www.japanoid.com/img/japanoid_sera_cover_keicar.jpg

The 300SL would argue that point. A-Pillar hinged doors have seemed to take on the term Butterfly doors |

why are suicide doors called suicide doors. Surely if you wanted to jump out of a moving car it would be easier with conventional doors!
