There's a tutorial somewhere, Mustafa. Planet Soarer? ALSC? It's there, read it a while back.

Muzzy,

How's Abdul's double sided tape holding up?

The hinge guy is a sheep sh... sorry one of Don's lot called Ian.

http://www.jkwebdesign.co.uk/lexusclub/doors.htm

Should get you on your way. I have tried a lot of different lubricants on the hinges, the best one so far is an aerosol chain lube made for dirt bikes. I think Andrew Vlamos suggested it.

I think our doors are interesting enough already, the scissor door conversions I've seen are a bit ordinary and while they might work with a Lancer the weight of a Soarer door could be a worry. Stuffed if I know how it would make a V8 go faster, would be unique on a new Hi Ace though.

Is there anyone who is able to do this job in QLD? I contacted Lew but he doesnt have the time atm to complete the job.

Has anyone else fixed this problem by getting someone else to do the work?

i would not be able to do this by myself.

Mustafa:

The duration of the Soarer's door hinges I think is about ten years. I remember that after I sprayed the hinge's doors with some lubricants the door problems started. I think the best think is not to lubricate the hinges at all.

I bought new door hinges but at the moment I am figuring out how to do it the best way.

You will need new bearings, specially made carbon washers and maybe new pins.
There will soon be reconditioned ones at Nials and Neil.

Coff!

They wear because they don't get lubricated. That is why they should be lubricated.

Hi!
Brand new hinges are packed with their own special grease for life, I think. When a foreign lubricant enters into the hinges it spoils the natural hinges grease changing its chemical constitution. My door where working just fine but I was advised to lubricate the hinges what I did. Days after a black colour drain were pouring out of the hinges pins. Perhaps this just happened to me. There are many components in this car that don’t need to grease or lubricate at all.

What did you lubricate it with? If you used something like WD40, then yes, you would have removed what protection there was.

Quite a few of us have used Lithium grease with good success.

If you use WD-40 it's good for a while but it will dry out all grease.

That black stuff is all the worn metal filings being washed out of the hinge due to lack of lubrication.

He may no longer be active on this forum, it has been pretty quiet. There's a FB page that he may be found at. Toyota Soarer Owners. Actually, I may have gotten the wrong bloke. Daryl Demarte still does hinges, apparently.

Hey Wayne, if you don't mind me asking.
How much did it cost you?

Exchange option would be awesome.
