G'Day Mates (that's what we Canadians think is the standard greeting over there!)
Due to our provincially mandated inspections on Japanese imports all lights on the vehicle must be marked with DOT and/or SAE. The main headlights as you likely know are marked as such but the inner highbeams are not. I am curious if anyone knows if their inner HB's have any markings...especially on the SC400 in the event I have to find some from a wrecker or purchase new.
Thanks in advance!!
PS...I would look on an SC400 here in Canada but have not seen one in my area in over a year.

Hi Colin
Don't know about the headlights but thought I'd comment on your greeting.
We don't really say g'day mate all the time. Sometimes we say "ow ya goin" But we definitely don't drink Fosters beer or throw shrimps on the barbie!

That's right. We throw prawn's on the barbie.

I'm not sure about the markings, but I'm sure it will have something. You may need to pull one out to have a good look.

Might need to upgrade to some later model glass highbeams.

VB is the best Oz beer (which doesn't say much) for my taste.
Get me a Kilkenny or a Budvar (not the US garbage).

Hey Colin, you actually have to deal with that on your inspections? Here in Alberta it's not an issue. My car went straight through inspection with no questions asked. And that's through a legitimate mechanic not just some guy that takes your money and writes out the report form with out seeing the car.

I know what you're saying about seeing USDM SC's around, yesterday I saw one which makes 5 that I have ever seen here in edmonton. Good luck with the inspection. And if you need any help with info on your car let me know and I'll help if I can.

Guys, I know a lot of you like to call your Toyota Soarers Lexus SC400s but remember the low beam head lamps are NOT the same. I do not know if there is a difference in the high beams but the USA head light laws were very different to just about every other country when I was playing around with American cars so I would not be surprised if they are. Remember a Toyota has the steering wheel on the right a Lexus has it on the left.

David, the Soarer/SC400 was designed in America for the American market - did they really bother to make different headlamps just for the Japanese market? Well I guess they did make different suspension and trim packages, so its possible I suppose.

Headlights are different due to LH drive, the beams have to cut away to the other side.

and I've always wondered if you could mate the US low beam shell to the JDM lenses, which would allow the use of the standard 9005/9006 bulbs which are fitted to the Lexus SCs.

If it's a US car (Lexus SC) it's bound to have DOT markings.
If it's a JDM car (Toyota Soarer), don't you have to change the low beams anyway, so that oncoming traffic is not dazzled by the higher beam on the left?
Just buy some SC lights off US eBay or ask on the US forums.

Being able to use standard bulbs is enough reason to fit the US lights :-)

30 seconds with a dremmel will make a regular 9005 fit perfect anyways, but the headlight pattern is set up to be for RHD.

However you don't legally have to change them.
