.... now i need to know what the colour is called for the bodyshop! Vandalised in the middle of the road! I'm not kidding, I was turning onto the Nepean Highway in Melbourne today and some fu**wit threw a bottle into the middle of the road and it smacked into my front bar and cracked and chipped it knocking a chunk of paint off in the process. I'm guessing the bodyshop (when I find one) will need to knwo what colour the paint is.. Can people please have a look at the pic in the profile and tell me what the colour is called (I'm assuming it's a standard Toyota hue?) it's like a metallic dark blue

I know im a newbie and dont want to be a search nazi, but if you use the search function and type in "paint codes". The second link has a comprehensive lists of colours and codes.
However, remember to not assume that its the original colour. check for signs of a re-spray just incase.

a spray shop wont even bother ordering the right colour paint based on a code on the car, as imports are known to not be stock.
Take it in, they will quote based on initial inspection, and then they will eye-match the paint work, which will also take in any fading and other impefection that the paint has suffered from over the years.
Infact, it will look so much better with eye-matched paint then stock paint.

Hey mate,
Hopefully they won't need to paint the whole panel. If you can, post some pics up and I'll get a painter mate to tell you what it's worth to fix. Lots of shops will overcharge something chronic. It also helps a lot if, once you know what has to be done, you do any sanding and even bogging (use bog very sparingly) yourself. Otherwise they charge high labour fees, because it tends to be their least favourite part of the job.
Eli P.S. If you want my mate to look at it you might want to email me to get my attention, or PM me or something ;)
Thanks mate - i was quoted $800 for the front bar - this includes taking it off and doing the job (apparantly easier this way) - it's going off to doug at SLCC on Friday and i'll get a quote from his body repair shop abotu the front bar at the same time... that on top of all the work I'm having done on it will cripple me

Wow $800 for a front bar? I just had my Vertex front on my V8 resprayed for $400, and that was including fixing all the stress cracks from the years of neglect. The painter did a wonderful job too.

Vinh, thats a good price. You'll have to let me know where you got that done, as both of my cars need a little paint. Last time I got my front bar painted on somebody else's insurance it was $800-900.

You guys down in Mexico get ripped!! i got my doors, mirrors, guards , bonnet and front bar fixed(crack)and side skirt fixed , new door hinge and 97 grill put in and all painted!for $1000!!! GO QUEENSLANDER!
Good luck to your brother 'Adrain' This is from a well known and well recommended body shop that know their way around a Soarer.
But if you can get everything done for silly money in Queensland, Maybe I should move there and buy a house for the price of a tank of fuel and put in a pool for the price of my weekly drycleaning bill.

body repair must be a good business to get into. I went around almost all of Geelong to get the best quote for a repair of low rear door damage, and a quarter panel ding. most of the quotes were around 900 - 1000 dollar marks. One quote was even $16 less than what i paid for the whole car. and all i wanted was it knocked out and primed.
so if you can find a place that, for $600, can repair what you've described i would say its a good deal.

I hate the idea of blending. If you damage anything near a blended panel then you don't have the one colour to match to. That's what had happened on my boot. So I left them a sample (fuel cap)and a front bar and told them to paint the front bar the same colour. It came back a perfect match to the guards.

Seems expensive. I paid $400 to remove the 1992 front bar, spray a 1997 front bar and reinstall. These are Sydney prices. The colour match is exact by the way.
