At the rear of the air slots in the front bar of my 91 GT L there is a slat like device about 75 to 80cm's long which pivots up and down from a central point. It seems that it may be there to control the amount of air flow to the radiator, but if this is the case then not sure how this would work. Any help, anyone.

Hard to get pictures Colin. Even with the front splash tray off can't get far enough away from the slat device which lies in the space between the back of the bar and the front of the radiator. The slat I'm referring to is about 4cms wide and when pivoted up seems to close part of the air intake. The front steel part of the slat can be seen from the front of the car.
