Any painters around? I'm gonna try my hand at a bit of painting over the weekend. Yes I know PPG paint is cheap stuff, but it's my first try. What I have is PPG Dulon AAA Mixed Colour acrylic. It is a metallic. The paint says to use one of the following thinners: "Dulon Thinner 922-34353, 922-34178, 922-43032". However, the paint shop gave me "Dulon Multi-Midway Thinner 921-01074". On the back it says "A multipurpose thinner for use with lacquer products". Do I need to go swap for the other stuff???

| it should be fine, because the thinners make the paint thinner to get through the gun, and then evaporate as it dries on the pannels. thing to be careful of is bubbles on the paint work, dont think you can thin the point out and blend it in by adding more thinners (like my cousin did) as you will be sanding the job off next week and re-doing the job. | All I know is. It's WINTER, so let each LIGHT application DRY before getting into it again. Other wise the paint will fall off. hahahahah |

Called the paint shop this morning, they said it was the right stuff. Apparently the labels have changed recently. I'm only painting a few little areas. Prep and masking are the worst. Hate it.

Warm the areas your spraying Miles, if ya can. Anywhere around the 25-27C mark is excellent, also warming your paint will help a lot also (dont get it too warm though or your thinners will leave before your ready for it to). As Neil mentioned, cold days/panels makes runs REALLY easy. If you can get your panel warm, about 5-8 minutes should suffice for flash off between coats.

Thanks Jeff! I'm doing a firewall and the interior of the car is out. I might try a heater inside the car, and sit the paint tin in a tub of warm water?

yeah the heater on the inside should do the job. The paint doesn't need to be as warm as the panels, merely not cold if ya know what I mean...

Miles, Home Hardware sometimes have Twin 500W worklights cheap ( $50 ) these WILL warm the panels and keep you warm 2 Pak will dry harder if left to dry by itself.
