Ive gone and put the 18's that were sitting around back on the soarer. They still rub the guards, especially when the steering is full lock and when going over large bumps in the road.
Ive been thinking of flaring the guards as opposed to just rolling them as the problem is not just the vertical clearence of the wheels, rather the offset, thus the wheels are protruding from the guard. If the wheels would sit under the guards theyd probably be fine.
Just wondering if anyone knows a reliable place I can get this done locally which wont charge me a fortune...

You could always do this.
ive gotta be honest, that looks nice from the backend, but it dosent look right front the front. If that was my car personally id have the front end flared out as well just so the car looks flush with the back end.
I know your just giving me ideas and I appreciate that, but something like that would probably be out of my budget for now, and not necessary given the wheels only need ~1inch extra clearence.

called around a few places today, and I cant find anyone that can do the sort of job im after =( im being told the only way I can flare my guards is to have each guard modified with the addition of a fiberglass panel. In my situation the wheels are only sticking out a couple of centimeters so this would be overkill, All I really need is an extra inch or two so that the wheels will sit nicely under the guards when going over a bump. I dont really want to get them rolled, as this ruins the look of the car in my opinion and probably wouldnt stop the wheels from hitting / rubbing on the guards either. I always thought there was some sort of tool that could lip the guards outways like I was explaining before, am I wrong or am I calling the wrong places

yeh you hit the nail on the head peter.
I popped over to my local panel beater and had him have a look at the car. Basically my options are to A) Modify the guard with a fiberglass panel or B) roll the guards higher and lip them.
Option A will be well over a thousand dollar job, which dosent suit my taste or budget, option B will only work if I remove the inner guard which would mean water would freely get trapped in certain areas of the cars body, perhaps increasing the risk of rust. Not only that id run the risk of cracking the paint on the outside.
So if I cut corners ill compromise the integrity and looks of the car, and if I do the job properly ill finish up with a look I dont particulary like and a much lighter pocket.
Thanks for all your input guys, but I guess in my situation buying a new set of wheels is the only option that makes sense.
