I am about to respray the front bar of my Soarer. It's bluish silver and I gonna respray it in the same colour. Just wondering, is it possible to just sand the surface smooth and then put on a couple of layers paint and clear coat? Or do I have to sand it down to the plastic and prime the whole lot. That guy in the paint shop recommended to sand it down completely, then apply plastic primer, then apply normal primer, then paint and then clear coat... any advise would be highly appreciated

prolly best to go with the paint shops advise as he has seen the front bar if it has any claws or cracks in the paint he may be able to pick up, which is prolly why he recommended to sand it all the way back.

The paint shop guy didn't see the bar. The bar had some cracks which I filled with fiberglass and sanded it smooth. So would it be ok just to primer these areas and then paint it straight away?
