I thought carbon fibre bonnets were illegal???? Vents or no vents!!

dont see why? as long as they are ADR approved.. ie have structural backing etc...

If you can get one that is ADR approved you would be ok! I thought there was a problem with them splintering during a collision, but that may just be hearsay.

paint it and they'll never know. Also, remember not to use the standard bonnet struts, they are waaay too powerful for a < 20kg bonnet :-)

That's one way around it but, if they do splinter, I wouldn't want bits going through the windscreen and into me....if you know what I mean!!

I was just thinking about that.....you can just imagine how fast the thing would go up and how hard it would be to close.

Or if you really are going for weight saving, do like Damien Smith. Remove them entirely, and store a broom handle in the boot. It can easily be removed during racing, and saves a few more grams over the front wheels.

Yep, no struts for me - the whole bonnet only weighs 9kg so it's not difficult to lift. My bonnet is 100% CF but no vents and my insurance company is OK with it.

The CF bonnet looks good on Damien car, as the dark green colour of the car and the carbon fibre bonnet match and blends in well!
