My drivers side door hinge has started to make a real noise when opening and closing. Hard to describe the noise but almost like a dry joint type noise. Any ideas? I have tried lubricating all joints but it does not seem to help.

I had the same problem w/ my doors, Phillipe, as your's is a '91 and mine is a '92. I tried every lubricant, including KY lol(not really), to no availe, but it kept making this hard metal on metal crack, pop, screechie noise. My body man told me that with the weight of these doors being so heavy and opening and closing them for 16 years, it might be time to replace the hinges. My doors got to the point that they started sagging, slightly, and rubbing my side bars cracking them. I replaced them for $600 USD and labor was about $400 USD. Maybe you can find some used ones in a junkyard or on the internet. Its just a matter of time when you won't be able to open or close your doors properly.

Make sure that you try white lithium grease. And get it inside the joints. It will penetrate then set up and keep lubricating.

There was someone that was able to rebuild the old Hinges, replace the bearings and so-forth and bring the old ones back to life.

New Hinges are approx $740 EACH from Castle Hill, and I can get them for $680 from one of my customers (Toyota genuine parts wholesaler), but apparently a rebuild of the hinges was something like $400AUD.

Any pop noise will probably be the front of the door catching on the back of the guard. Eventually it'll take the paint off, and not long after that it'll bend the metal. Can be fixed with a nice thick phone book and a bit of patience.

How do you re-condition hinges? I thought that they stretched beyond use? It got to a point that my drivers door wouldn't close properly....so, replacement it was, both. Now my doors glide like silk.

Do the bend or stretch? or are the bushing just being worn?

Most of the time it's only bearings and plastic bushes who needs to be replaced, sometime you need to make a new pin as well.
You can test the hinge this way, open the door fully grab the door underneath (or open window) and lift, if you have a play, the hinge need to be replaced

So can you simply replace the bushings and bearings? If so where can I get the parts?

The bearings you can buy in a shop who sale bearings (SKF or equal) the bushes I had to special order from a cut to size plastic place and the are not cheap I bought 32 of them it cost me $200
the bearings I could not find the exact copy, but I now have four (total of 8) of them instead for one in each big hole.
The old bearing is a hell of a job to get out, but with a little gas heat and just destroy the needles in them you will get them out.

Jan, yeah, those bearings are a real pain to remove.
I am assuming you're stacking the new bearings on top of each other. But the pin could the 'make or break' of the job, cos they wear. Those of us that don't have access to a lathe might be able to do their own fix.
I've got a few spare hinges at my workshop.
I'm thinking bearings(19mm o.d, 10mm centre?from memory),spacers,Loktite...Hmmm could work.
Pen, Jan is on to it.
I'll check it out.
