| Have you ever wondered halfway through your polishing job why the hell you started in the first place? Your arm is burning, sweat dripping from your brow, and there's still 2 steps left in the process... then you're finally finished, so you take a few strides back to survey your handywork and you're instantly reminded why you bothered. SHINY SOARER!!!

| The crappy bit - the best way to make it rain is to wash your car. We've had 11mm of rain since I spent half a day doing that... all my hard work down the crapper! |

| I use a set of 'advisory' instructions from a guy called Damian, who owns and runs a company called Final Inspection in Melbourne. The first ever time he washes, cleans, and details a car is the absolute hardest, but once done, everytime after that is a breeze. He has told me there is no reason to sweat, loose sleep, have burning muscles, etc from detailing a car properly. His first detail (depending on how bad the car is) can result in sanding back with 1200 grit w'n'd paper, and then buffing completely, followed by a very mild and fine polish, and then a proper carniba wax (2 coats). After that, it's literally a bucket of water over the car to remove light residue and dirt, then a light wipe over the car with a wet mild deterdent covered cloth, followed by another bucket of water to remove the detergent. Then he uses a technique with the water that literally washes the water off, and leaves the car almost compeltely dry, then he uses a Waffle Weave cloth to finish the car off. After this, a light coat of P21s wax (thin wipe into the tub, and that's enough wax to do the entire car), and then wipe it off, and your done. Takes him no more than 20 minutes for all of this, and the car looks sensational. B. |

| BTW, Glen, is that original pain work, if so, can you PM me the colour code, as I am only weeks away from ordering paint and respraying the entire car, and that colour is beautiful, and very close to my current colour, so I want to match it, and paint my car that colour. Thanks. Brian. |

It was hot - that's why I was sweating! Stinking hot morning, then pissing rain in the afternoon... more wonderful Victorian weather. What do you mean about the paint code? The car is totally original inside and out... it's the same metallic midnight blue it had on when it left the factory - never been resprayed. I'm sure someone's got the colour codes for factory paint around here somewhere... |

Walk into Supercheap Auto/Autobarn/Repco or even Big W or Kmart etc etc etc... ask for the Meguiar's 3-step system. If they go "huh?" call them a noob and go somewhere else. It'll cost you about $60 for the three bottles, but jeez it works like magic. |

| At least even with the rain, the next time you wash it it'll come up looking mint again. |

Exactly, especially if you have a nice thick multi coat layer of wax... I need to get stuck into my soarers paint and windows soon. So many water spots but with some TLC they will be completely removed. Just takes a good deal of time, but hey Ill go to any extent for a tidy soarer! |

| Funny enough, I washed and dried my car last night (waxed it a couple of weeks ago) and got all the dust and bird poo off it... And this morning woke to pouring rain. First rain in about 2 weeks I think. |

http://www.finalinspection.com.au/forums/ Its about $400-500 for a Stage 3, which would be recommended if he hasn't done it before and espicially with a black car. It sounds a lot but if you see the detail in his work and results he achieves its worth it. His also hired by a lot of the exotic car makes to detail their cars for Melbourne Motor Show etc so you know his good There located in Brunswick. |

A couple of hours, not going too quickly, and a break for some lunch. It was enough time to listen to the Aussies bowl a few of the Indians out in the cricket, have lunch, and chuck a Metallica CD on. If your paint is oxidised and looking a little average with rain spots etc, the paint prep (1st step) will be the longest and most difficult step. The oxidation can be a prick to clear up, but mate it's totally worth it! Set aside a Saturday afternoon, make sure you've got a stubby in the other hand, and off you go. Oh, and an important tip: make sure the car is in the shade. Heat is not good for the polish and you'll end up with more swirl marks than before you started. Made that mistake with my first bike when I was 18... never used polish on it again. Bikes are small enough to use Mr Sheen - it comes up mint. |
