Hi, it may seen to be a stupid question. I went to a tint shop today and told him that i wanna tint the sunroof glass too. The guy told me that he did the same on his commodore sunroof and soon the glass cracked. He said it is due to the sunroof glass is laminated and if u tint that(putting another layer of film on it), the heat stress will crack the glass. I am not sure about that... Isn't all glass on cars these days are laminated for safety?
Has anyone tinted their sunroof glass and has no probs?? ta.

Isn't your sunroof already tinted? Anyway, no laminated glass has ever cracked in my cars in about thirty years since the last "shatterproof" screen I had, and nor can I think of a merely temperature-related reason why an extra tint layer would make it do so.

Nah, don't see a problem we did it on a friends R32 Skyline, over 3 years ago, and no problems at all.
I suggest that for a sunroof, you get a mirror tint, as this will REFLECT the heat & uv better than a standard type dark tint. Plus as it's for a sunroof, you can go as dark as you like without breaking ANY rules and regs.

Hmmmm im sure my sun roof is tinted.
Since i got the tint on the day i got the car i cant remember if the sun roof was 'just like that' or not.
In any case its the exact same shade as my windows so im going with that it was tinted :P I got Double or Triple coat (cant remember) with a lifetime warranty, so it better not break!

The sunroofs in a Soarer ARE tinted from the factory, BUT it is ONLY a (Very) mild tint, and you CAN get sun-stroke (Or whatever) with the original UN TINTED sun roof.

Thanks, people. I will tint the sunroof then. I'll see if he has any mirror tints, if not, I will go for the darkest humanly possible tint!! (with a can of black paint! :P)
ps. the sunroof does have a slight tint, but i like it a lot darker than it is now. So dark that i can watch a solar eclips through it! well, not really...

Just be aware that when it is really dar, at night it is almost black, so you can't see the moon or stars through it. I just got mine tinted 2 days ago, and I sort of miss that...

when i got my car tinted by a mate who has also tinted for over 15years said that it is a big risk to tint the glass in the sunroof, he said that it will either last or shatter maybe not straight away but it will happen, the reason is that tint shrinks in time and for glass that is not fixed in any sub frame that has no movement it will pull the glass tight and which causes the glass to shatter, all tint shrinks, my mate has seen this in manny cases and thus why i didnt tint the glass in my sunroof, the factory tint that i found out is the actual color of the glass like the merc glass that you see which has a light blue tinge to it same thing with out glass in the roof and the glass in the rear quarter windows the grey green interior soarer has a green tinge to the glass and brown tan colour interior cars has a brown tinge to the glass. there is some food for thought.
