Hmmm my 3.0GT had it really bad...

I tried a few things with no result.

But then I found using a #0000 grade synthetic 'steel wool' pad with window cleaner as a lubricant, works really well at removing the water spots.

You just need to be careful you don't let it go dry or you can scratch the glass. Test it out on an inconspicuous area first.

Go to the supermarket and get citric acid it comes in a pepper shaker style container and looks like salt. Once you have it wet a sponge, sprinkle a fair bit of this stuff on it and keep rubbing wet into the glass until it comes up clear. It works for shower screens calcium type build up also.

Citric acid is used as a de-scaler for cleaning out kettles and electric baby bottle warmers.

It's also used to clean the internals of industrial boiler tubes. Much safer than fluorine products.

Wish I'd known about this some years ago.
I owned a house which had whitish marks on the windows that I couldn't remove. I believe the marks were alkaline in origin (cement) and something acid based should do a good job of removing it.

Weak vinegar (acetic acid) will work too. We live in a limestone area and water marks both on glass and paintwork are a real hassle (especially on the Rexton which is a dark wine colour).

I've found that the water marks can be reduced by immediately drying the surface with a quality chamois (I now have an Austrian Enjo brand chamois, not easy to get and pretty expensive). Needless to say, it's advantageous not to have the lawn sprinkler anwhere near the car on a hot day:-)
