I want to fit standard size number plates but the rear bar isnt very accomodating...was wondering does anyone have some good solutions for fitting longer (or standard size even) number plates without bending the things on the edges?
the front is sort of okay as i figured spacers between the bolts sort of do the trick.
something for the back is not so easy as it is pretty recessed.
pretty anal about these things and it drives me crazy

ah you are in TAS though. I notice there are different restrictions in NSW and other states. In NSW we have standard plate sizes and they cannot be defaced.
Standard plate format is XXX . 000. If you want to go euro then it goes even longer.
those things are huge. fine for front but to fit on the back? :

You will notice that the number plate recess actually tapers out; therefore the further away from the car, the more space available. I made a backing plate out of black perspex, used longer bolts and made some spacers out of garden hose....

Top view - black line shows number plate recess, showing how it tapers out. Blue line indicates the perspex backing plate, red lines indicate spacers made from garden hose, green lines show longer bolts.

I just rolled the edge of the plate against a metal rod, until it fit. If the stupid authorities in NSW want to make their number plates half a metre long...

pull your rear bar off... use some expanding foam/bog? Cover up the number plate void, and screw the plate directly onto the rear bar.
BUT ! you will need to have it lit up to keep the boys in blue happy, i would suggest a small and thin white fluro tube (one of those really THIN ones) and place that above it?
hahah that is such a massive effort but could look nice. Better option, dont buy a gay euro style number plate

on the rear i used some crush tubes around longer bolts to extend it out a little like lawrence illustrated but i had to extend mine another 2 inches due to the vertex kit
