A Ford Mondeo is not an Aston Martin in any respect other than ownership. Your analogy says that calling a Soarer a Lexus is equivalent to calling a Corolla a Lexus, which is arguing by changing the subject.

. I see. So which of the JZZ30, JZZ31, UZZ31 and UZZ32 is the real Soarer and which three should be called, oh, I don't know, Lexus?

well in the case of the soarer it is the same car. aston martin is not a division of ford, its just owned by ford...where as lexus is a division of toyota. same manufacturer, same factory, just different assembly lines.

Anyone know where I can get a Holden badge. The one on my camry fell off. Maybe I could use the Toyota badge off my VN... lol

just rember, the cars we have are Toyotas, and they and the previous models of the same car were toyotas long before Lexus came around. Still if you wanna put a Lexus badge on your superior Toyota go ahead.

Was the Lexus brand not invented for the nth american market, just Like Acura and infinity? I read once Lexus stood for Luxury EXport to USa. But then again 90% of stuff you read on the Internet is bs...

Toyota > Lexus

Lexus didn't come with turbos
Lexus didn't come with electric seats
Lexus didn't come with various other things the toyotas had.

So you're essentialy downgrading your car by bading it a lexus!

I posted that earlier and yes that is correct however it was not limited to the US. Lexus obviously is everywhere but North America was the target market which is probably why they put a small block V8 in the sc400. Would that be Japan's first attempt at a V8? If so they certainly hit the nail on the head the first time round.

You're one of those guys that think that a toyota lexen was shipped in from Japan aren't you. I know the badge is different but it's a just a commodore so when it breaks down, don't blame toyota.
I wouldn't knock you for putting an infini badge on your ride, I think they look sweet.

I think most people like you Matt are against people using the Lexus badge as a posing tool. Some people like myself think the L badge is better looking than the toyota symbol that's why there will always be one on the back of my ride (or deleted altogether).
What I don't get is why everyone is so passionate about putting other forum members down for doing so.

Doesn't make it a good thing, though.

Each to their own, i just think its stupid to put a Lexus badge on your toyota.

Just like the UZZ30 and quite a few JZZ31s, eh Matt?

Andrew, the Lexus brand was created before the SC400/Soarer was, and funnily enough they export them all over the place. They built them on one production line, chose the market for the LHD/RHD models coming off the line and applied badges.

They did this so successfully (see Sebastian's post on the previous page) that they now pull the same trick in Japan.

As I said years ago on this subject, I am constantly bemused by the tribalism and snobbery in the positions for and against Toyota or Lexus. If you imagine that snobbery applies to only one side of the badge-fancier brigade, then I rest my case (with laughter).

My opinion is that most people associate badges with visual appearance and manufacturer, nothing more (or less). On that basis you can badge your Vauxhall Monaro a Pontiac GTO or vice versa, but you will look silly badging your Monaro a Corvette.

Incidentally, Aston Martin has been owned by Prodrive since 2007, not by Ford. Catch up, people. :-)

The Lexus SC400 does come with leather electric memory seats standard, and quite a few options as standard,
The SC300 was the pov pack in the USA.

What did the SC400 have that my UZZ31 doesn't?

Also were I come from Lexus is a far higher class of vehicle then a Toyota.

My car came badged on the front with a Lexus L .. which IMHO is a classier design then the generic Toyota symble

lexus higher class than a toyota? i seriously dont get this statement. lexus = toyota. anything lexus has is what toyota lets them have. theyre the same thing ffs. its all a gimmick to make you pay twice the amount for the same thing.

Right for accuracy, Ali; wrong for successful brand creation.

Jol, the one advantage of which I am aware for the SC400 was an optional Nakamichi sound system, not sold in Japan. Perhaps that is because Nakamichi gained their reputation for innovations on cassette decks (I still have a 581) rather than other audio. They eventually went bankrupt and are now owned by a holding company which owns also Akai and Sansui. More badges :-)

Well, that is tricky - but I would have to say the first picture is probably the Lexus, being that 1) Its parked as you would expect a left hand drive to be parked, has an external aerial, and I can see no sign of a petrol filler cap that might indicate the image has been flipped, and 2) the second picture appears to have a number of (most likely) Japanese people in the background, has been dumped on its arse in a very Japanese way, and while is far to reflective to see clearly, the Soarer that its parked next to does appear to have the petrol filler in the right place, so I would assume this image also has not been flipped.

Of course you could be trying to be really sneaky, and perhaps they are both Soarers, or both SC400's and I'm totally wrong.

I do take your point though, but I still see them as different cars.

Ahha you are wrong indeed my friend. The second picture is the lexus with an AC kit. I knew the Japanese guys would throw you.
Anyway, the real issue for me is that people on here so adamantly try to prove their point about the badging of other peoples cars when really it's a non issue. Constructive criticism should always be welcomed but the way in which some people so passionately rip into other forum members for essentially having a different piece of plastic hanging off their boot does not seem constructive to me.

Before getting smart with me and trying to twist my words, you might want to learn the difference between Veilside, and Vertex.

So no, he shouldn't sell his car and get a Series 3 Rx-7. Yes, 3, not 2.

Not only can't you tell the difference between Vertex and Veilside, but you can't tell the difference between a car you're trying to insult? You're losing an uphill battle here.

Quit while you're behind, don't want to embaress yourself any further.
