Well here we go,
I Recently had my soarer for sale, and, upon self reflection in the time it was advertised i realised that this was not the direction i truelly wanted to head towards. I wanted to determine what i wanted in a car, and after looking at all the effort i put into the engine, and the car that inspired me, Simon Triantafillou's GANGSTA Soarer in Auto Salon, i then knew that i would really only be satisfied with a job that i can do properly myself.
So i became productive, thought to myself how can i get the best out of the car (Not wanting it to look just as as before i attempted the work). And, well i did 2 things, worked in my spare time for a Boat building fibreglassing, and also did all teh nasty prep work for a Smash repairer.
Here are the first few shots of sanding and getting the prep work down, i did end up buying a Ebay BN kit for 500, so im getting ready to use my fibreglassing skills
Will be putting down a high build undercoat to fill in the imperfections once the kit is fitted.
Front bar, and Rear bar look like they will get on no probs, but the skirts look like they will be a problem. At the moment its only dummy fitted This weekend i will be fitting the kit and glassing the skirts up properly. Here come the pics, and well hopefully my experience here will show people what TO/and what NOT to do, while attempting a DIY. BTW i have little experience in fibreglassing, but a fair amount in prep work NOT painting. So here goes my best attempt.

Delivered 590. Which i thought, what is there to lose, if i totally screw it up, could prob re sell it for 300 bucks, and buy a genuine and not lose too much. The skirts are scaring me quite a bit though, wont find out til the weekend how they square up. The shampoo looking crap is just the left over after i wet sanded it.
Just wet sanding it with 500, then going to undercoat, 500, Paint a fair few layers and then cut it back with 1200, Then go over it with 2000, then buff and polish. Haha that makes it sound easy

looking good id recommend trying to get the windows out atleast and do the door jams. what colour are you going with or doing the original colour? nothing worse than seeing a good paint job open up a door and totally different door jam colour. kit should look good once done try be careful of driveways and such as they lower the front of the car a hell of a lot!! but keep posting pics

On the DIY bodykit subject,I am currently installing a Origin bodykit and it would seem that the reinforcer bar is in the way. does anyone know of any tricks to get around this? will i have to move or remove the reinforcer bar? im am hoping to get it finished tomorrow so any help would be appreciated.

reinforcement bar.. to do this you need a bomex or genuine vertex kit. thats one of the reasons i went genuine my copy kit didnt fit it and origin has a bigger hole again but the genuine vertex kit fits perfect with the reinforcement bar still fitted. but the std reinforcement bar wont fit with it so will have to be removed. the only other thing you could possibly do is wither chop the bar enough to fit (not recommended but would be slightly better than none at all.. or get a bit of piping and make up a new reinforcement bar that is skinnier but still fits.

Okay here is some progress Been busy last few weeks but got last night and today to sort my kit out and finally got it on! All was finished tonight and all i have to do now is weld up the holes where the badges were on the back, bit of filler here and there where the kit cracked when i was putting it on and it will be ready for priming tomorrow. Woot.
Couple of things i ran into problems with, The slot where the side blinkers sit, the slot was way too small and had to get the die grinder out to open it up. Also the side skirts were atrocious, had to really flew them to get them on, but, they made it with a bit of persuasion Will post some more up tomorrow of it primed and ready to be painted! Oh another thing, this beast is way too damn low now! i just realised i cant get a jack under it haha. But thats a problem for later

geez you must have got a good ebay kit the sideskirts fit without chopping them and lengthening them.
well done keep up the good work.. and to get a jack under you have to turn your wheels full lock then you can squeeze it in on an angle lol i have 2 jacks the original and a really small scissor jack to get it started so i can get the other one under as i dont want to crush the sideskirts

Cant post it up anymore, but was the bodykits from Mybodykits off ebay. http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/mybodykits__W0QQ_armrsZ1 , But as everyone has said, just save for a good one, cheap ones are and will cause you to have massive headaches. If i were to do this again i would spend teh 2k for a nice one that slips straight on.
Fibreglassing is all about the right amount of catalyst iv found, and how much you put over your matting. Its just came to me with practice
As for the paint, i went with the Autothane 2 pak, straight solid colou, and no, wont bother with a clear> I've put 6 coats down and its not going to be my daily driver anymore, so all i will have to do is keep the polish and keep it clean and it will be fine for ages.
Now to post up progress, i ended up finishing the painting this past weekend. Lots and lots and lots of sanding the HS Primer. I put it down think so i could rub it right down without having to fill the chips. And it worked really well. Time for some pics in the prime prep stage

Here it is, straight out of the gun, and im going to cut back with 1200, then 2000, then buff. Shine should come like glass.
That was around 6 coats of HS Primer on the bonnet and 6 on the boot, 3 on the rest. You can see the dust that the car has picked up, but with the run over of 1200 and 2000 that will dissapear no problems.
I also bought a set of dark projector headlights and im going to tint my own rear lights, im looking forward to seein how that looks.
