| Got some new rear wheels, they JUST fit, going to roll the rear guards so I can lower the car a little more. Now just need to find some for the front, that 1 fit just as well, 2 look good, 3 clear the brakes. Thinking that it may take a while...

Nice, what are the specs? How come you didn't look for a matching set front and rear? Would be a shame if you can't get matching fronts. Have you upgraded the front brakes as most rims will easily clear stock TT brakes. Matt

They are 18x10 +25 offset. Have been looking for a set for a long while, but not able to find them in chrome. Only silver or gold, and usually in the wrong offset, or will not clear brakes. I am going to be on the look out for a set of fronts. Yep upgraded to LS400 4 spots. Its a 235 on a 10 inch rim

Yep only a pair, got something else for the front that lines up with the guards. Just have to get some tyres that will fit to make it all work.

I have seen a few cars with different sets of wheels that looked great, as long as it is well thought out it will look good!

Hmm, maximum rim size for those tyres should be around 9.5", unless they are specifically designed for stretching, you are asking for trouble if you intend to drive hard. Of course that offset is all wrong too, so presumibly handling and safty aren't a concern.

Yep the different sets may look a little different, sometimes it looks great other times not so good. Will have to wait and see. I am always going to be on the lookout for a set of fronts to match. As for the offset being wrong, your opinion Matthew. To say that safety is not a concern, don't think that it is a fair comment at all, as it is assumptive. The Handling has not been affected at all. Still drives fine, with no neg effects on it at all. Only a little bit of rubbing on the guard on large bumps, but rolling them will fix that.

Ali, if relating facts about wheel offset and handling make you a soarer police, then so be it. The fact is the wheel offset is wrong and changes the steering geometry.

The offset is not factory, does not mean that it is wrong or unsafe. Whilst the handling will be altered that doesn't necessarily mean it will be in a negative way. Matt.

Its not opinion, its fact. Tyres stretched beyond the manufacturers specs DO have sidewall failure, and just don't perform as they are supposed to due to inadequate sidewall flex etc. Cars with excessive reduced offset DO tramiline, and DO wear out suspension components quicker. You may not notice anything under normal driving conditions, but in an emergency, there is a (small) chance that what you have done could make a huge difference. Its just not worth it. Please, I am not trying to be inflamatory or put you down in any way, I am just presenting a factual argument that you need to take into consideration. Its true that I think stretched tyres look silly, and its just as true that thats just my opinion, but the only reason I care enough to comment about it is that I also KNOW that they do nothing other than make a car more unsafe. Tyres and suspension are the most important parts of a car - why take risks with them?

They are on the rear. The rims that are due to go on the front are very close to the correct offset with a +38

All tyres CAN have sidewall failure. That is while being maintained, and at correct pressure.
Matthew Sharpe wrote on Monday, December 28, 2009 - 07:14 am:and just don't perform as they are supposed to due to inadequate sidewall flex
At what speed to you need to be traveling for a normal tyre at this size/series to flex, to a point that it would make that much of a difference?

Never said that you were. At no point was the original post designed to incite an argument either. Even a factual argument.

Already done and noted on the policy. Was done before they were trial fitted. |

It always amazes me how posting pics of wheels with stretched tyres always triggers a debate on how unsafe they are, how shiitt they look etc etc....FFS people if someone has them then they obviously like them, give them a break about it. Whats wrong with a good old compliment and if you dont like them then dont comment. The last i looked at Ryan's thread he did not ask for opinions, he was merely showing them off. It would be awesome to log on one day and see a set of wheels with no one harping on about the stretched tyres or offset and just give some positive compliments. Unless of course someone is asking for everyones opinion. Well that was my 2cents .......OH by the way Ryan.....sweet wheels man, you have done well.
