| Today I badged my Toyota emblem. It came off fairly easily but it left a lot of adhesive. I took my time to slowly peeled off the adhesive and it has left a residue. The emblem has 3 pins behind it when it plugs into 3 holes in the body. What the best way to clean up this mess? Would a cut and polish work? Should I fill the 3 holes in the body? What do most people do when they debadge their car?

I debadged all my cars since now (possible will do my soarer too) and always took them to a panel beater/painter guy. Needs a respraying usually, and don't cost too much money (at least in Europe)

Hey Warren, Usually the best was is to take the boot lid to a panel shop and the holes should be really mig welded rather than filled with body filler as it may fall through the holes later on, seen it happen heaps of times on soarers. They will need to re-spray the whole boot lid.

respraying the whole bootlid would be an epic waste of money

wow didn't think it say such a hard job to badge a soarer. thought it would be pretty much remove the badge and polish it up, seems otherwise.

Warren, Just a bit of bug and tar remover will do the trick, and some paint cleaner / polish will help aswell. As Wafi suggested, it needs to be welded up. But if you have a rear wing, then they can just spray the section below the wing. hope that helps

| I had it done on my Limited in 2008, $300 for a full boot respray. Note the 1994-6 model tail lights.

Yep, one reason why I got a boxy BMW. The shape of the soarer began to irritate me!

The holes can also be filled with solder if done properly and assuming you have a decent sized soldering iron with a point. I did both sides of my HQ Monaro and when I sold it 15 years later they were still fine. Less heat, no warping and a quick wipe with a body file rather than a sander/grinder. Do it wrong however and they will pickle up and bubble over time. Unless the top of the bootlid paint is shot you should only need to get the back painted. Even if the match isn't 100% it's extremely hard to pick due to the change in panel angle at that point. That'd be my 20c. Rob

My soarer was debadged when I bought it however within a couple of weeks a truck cleaned up the rear end while I was at work. When I got the car back from repairs they had put a boot lid on it with badges! Devastated. They offered to fix it up if I made an appointment to do so however I really just wanted my car back after 8 weeks of it being undriveable.

If its just like gluey sticky stuff, you can you Tea tree oil. That works really good. I used that on A sticker that I took off my car and it removed the residue.
