Hi all. In Perth's recent hail storm my passenger mirror was smashed. What I want to know is is it reasonably easy to take off a passenger mirror from a wrecker car and insert it back into place on mine or is it easier to take off the whole unit and replace (ie motors and all). I'm assuming it is the first option but thought I would check with the experts first.
Just the glass = very easy. Flat blade screwdriver with a rag covering inserted below glass, lever it up (it will unclip at the bottom) It's hinged at the top so after it's unclipped just pull towards you {gently}
whole unit = easy remove door skin and window surround, undo 3 screws, unclip cable and Bob's your uncle

AFAIK the glass is the same but the ultrasonic disc (brass appearance ~50mm in diameter and 7mm thick) glued on the back of some of the V8 mirrors *might* be a problem. You might be able to snap/pry it off or trim any plastic inside the mirror that is a problem if it interferes.
The ultrasonic disc is inside the black plastic glass holder so doesn't interfere with the fixing of the mirror. The blue plug could be snipped off or just tucked out of the way

Hi,
I notice I have power mirrors on my jzz31 that fold back. If I wanted to replace a mirror how can I make sure it will work with my car? Will all v8 mirrors work and not the tt or is it the other way around. Also what if I don't know what car it comes from, are there any particular things to look for. I haven't pulled off my one yet and the replacement would just be for cosmetic reasons. Chipped pain etc
