Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting the windscreen, rear glass and rear qtr windows removed from my z31 wreck before I get it towed away. Is it possible to get these things out of the car without much hassle?? I have a few friends who have some car skills who I could get around.
I have heard there is a tool for getting windows out of cars, is this true??
And in general, whats involved with removal?? Is it worth my time??
I would be putting the glass up for sale once its all out, thats it.
Any help?? thanks guys.

basically they are just glued in. you just need to get a stiff sharp blade in around the window and cut through all the glue and they will come out.
Main difficult ones are the rear quarter windows as they have studs which make it hard to cut all the glue.
Do not try to pull the window out by one corner, like removing a sticker, as you will just break it.
Get a good suction cup glass holder ($20 in the parts bin), and take your time. Cut all the glue and carefully pull the window straight out.
Practice on the front windscreen first as they are only a couple of hundred for a new one and there's a good chance it will be sandblasted and rooted anyway.
Take your time and you'll be right. Don't do what a mate of mine tried years ago with a crow bar.
I have used a miracle blade set, those funky knives that they always advertised as being able to cut through cans so easily. I used one of them to cut through the sealant, using crc as a lubricant with an assistant inside pushing the end of the blade around the glass with a wooden block while i used my hand on the handle from the outside.
As far as rear 1/4's go, some are just bolted on and held on with sikaflex type sealant, so it's pretty easy to get at them.
Takes time, some windscreens are very brittle so try not to damage them as it's so easy to crack them around the corners or even get little chips coming out of them.
Do not try to wedge a screwdriver on the corner and try to push the window out, I did this and it shattered in my eyes.

I need to replace my BMW's from window, its got so many small scratches and swirls over the years it makes for dangerous night driving when cars come past.
I am worried about doing it though my insurance company though because they would just have it sent to some sloppy auto glass place where they do half as jobs, nothing like done at the original factory. I've seen some jobs done by the leading window repairers and they are really badly done.

Interesting you should mention that Rob, I have been meaning to give that a go with a buffing pad I bought a couple of months ago, I also have the Autoglym glass polish product as show in that link too, perhaps it has the potential to work well.
I should get my arse into gear and give it a try tomorrow!
few days ago I removed a window using a measuring tape, it works great. Sharpen the edges of the measuring tape, and use WD40 every so often for lubrication.
