I just bought 94 tail lights recently, waiting for them to arrive... just wondering, would i need to get different colour bulbs or switch where the bulbs are or something, how does that work?
Thanks :-)

the tail lights didn't come with a wiring harness or bulbs? normally the seller provides those. however im pretty sure the wiring harness and bulbs are the same for 91-94, could be wrong though.

about the 4 bolts, your saying they loosen but don't come off the screw?

With the '94 tails, you'll have the hyper blink problem (indicators blink at a fast rate) as these tail lights only use 1 indicator bulb compared to the 3 bulbs that pre '94 tails lights use.

I have '94 tails as well (which came with the harness though) & just wired 2 extra indicator bulbs on either side of the tail lights to fix the hyper blink.

i think i wrote it wrong, the lights have the harness, probably works, but i can get the 91 lights off to get the 94 lights in. The bolts twist but dont actually come off, at all...

The studs could be threaded as you said. So all 6 of them turn but don't come off ? Do the nuts move easily or are they hard to twist ? Mine were a bit stubborn too, but I used a socket wrench. If you don't plan on selling or keeping your current tails, I'd just snap the studs & be done with it ha ha & put these nicer '94's in. But I'm an idiot so

They aren't bolts, they are just nuts. The nuts should wind off leaving studs.

If the nut is turning the stud then you need to apply some leverage to get them to pull out.

You will also need to either modify the brake and indicator harness or the lamp out module and the flasher module

why would you want to go back to 91's after 94's lol
also cut the purple wire to your tail light module then the dash wont keep telling you that there is a bulb out.
try using a 10mm spanner and hold the stud with vice grips or pliers really hard. someone has obviously overtightened them

Just get 4 bulbs & their sockets from your old wiring harness, cut the 2 wires coming from the sockets at a reasonable length, & splice 2 on either tail light into your new '94 wiring harness on either tail light.

Hi,

Firstly, wiring in extra bulbs to fix fast flashing is not the correct way.

You need to modify the flasher unit by replacing the 3u3 capacitor with a 6u8. Here is a really good guide by Luke Gomer :

Also by cutting wires to remove the lamp failure warning, you take away a real nice feature. It's better to source a lamp failure unit from the Soarer the tail lights came from, this way you can retain your function so long as the plugs are the same.

I'm going to experiment to see if I can modify the existing lamp failure unit to work with different taillights.

Indeed it is not the correct way Boris, I am not fussy by any means whether it is correct or not, it works & does the job, for me anyway. A quick DIY fix for if you don't have the time or resources as the guide above.

yeh yeh i know my typos are bad... i was on my phone. Oh well some people got me haha. I couldnt get the stud or bolt or whatever off, so that was annoying. Why is a stupid stud hard to get off? I'll wait till tomorrow and try again.

In the tail lights the studs that I THINK your talking about are fixed into the lights , If the stud is turning with the nut then the stud is turning in the plastic , if you can get something to hold the end of the stud and use an open end spanner on the nut that may work but if not and your not using the lights again get vise grips on the end of the stud and pull it straight out and you maybe lucky with it sliding out of the plastic .

The problem is its not very safe. Bulbs get hot, and sometimes even burst if they blow, and if not properly mounted in a engineered housing can cause fires. I guess if you have them properly secured it would be OK but if they are just kinda drifting around...
