Hi Guys,
I am having the strangest problem with my soarer and it only started in the past few days. Whenever I now open my door on my car it now the front lip of the door panel seems to connect with the front quarter panel and i have to 'force' it past the quarter panel, which makes it scrape and make a loud 'bang' sound now every time I open the door.
I have NO idea how this has happened, and inspecting my quarter panel there seems to be a slight dint in it, perhaps someone has hit my car when it was parked at the shops?
Anyways, if you guys have any recommendations for a fix or something I can do about this I would really appreciate it, because I feel now that every time I open my door I am just doing my Soarer damage

Thanks mate, now I think about it a few days before this started happening my door started to feel heavier and clunkier, but then it went away before this appeared again.
I haven't got the skills to change the hinge myself, so I will just buy the hinge off of Daryl if he is still selling and then take it to my mechanic to replace.

Owen, The bearings in the rivetted fixed link are worn out, which causes this problem. Also the main bearings will be rusted as well. The only way to fix this is to replace the hinge.
To change the hinge is not a hard job if you have a floor trolley jack. Perhaps the hardest bit is removing the plugs for the electric loom.
I have exchange reconditioned hinges in all the original Soarer colours, but I can supply any colour if a colour code is made available. email me at ddemarte@bigpond.net.au if I can be of further assistance.

No Warren,
There is, and has been, no one else reconditioning Soarer hinges, so I took it upon myself to work out a way to recondition these successfully, to as good or better standard than new.
I was also very annoyed at the way people made suggestions to 'fix' their door hinge problems, such as by using a phone book to bend the hinge back. It is not the hinge that bends, but the sheet metal on the body or door. Not what should be done to such a great car!!
I have been reconditioning these for over 5 years now and the ones shown are only the ones that have been reconditioned, with more ready to be done when I have time.
Owners should check their hinges regularly by opening the door fully, then grasping the bottom of the door and try to move the door up and down. There should be no movement/looseness in the bearings, otherwise you can end up having problems, such as Owen has at the moment, and end up with dented panels.

Hey Daryl,
Thanks mate I will definitely be getting in touch with you once I get back from holidays! you are a lifesaver, I don't think I can do the hinge myself but I will definitely buy one from you opening the door to my Soarer right now is painful for me, because every time I open the door I know I am hurting the bodywork of my car and it's not a pretty sound.
I have a 1992 Silver Soarer TT, do you have a hinge for that colour?
I had this same problem as soon as i bought my car. I had to keep entering and exiting through the passenger door. But, $80 for the hinge and $170 for labour, it's all fixed.

G'day daryl, Was wondering if you had any hinges left, mine has the exact same problem and I almost feel sick everytime I open the door.. I'm not too fussy on colour, but I have a white soarer..
