can anyone tell me if there is meant to be a trim piece that connects to the bottom of the dash on the drivers side footwell to cover the wiring up? same as the passenger side one that covers the vents.

Yeah, there is another piece that connects to the piece with the fuel/bootlid opener. It is about the same size as the passenger side but has a light in it.

On the right is the OBD plug connector. The light uses a tiny little wedge bulb.
