G'day all,

Just thought I'd make a quick thread about the water/acid rain marks I had on my windscreen.

Well ever since receiving my car from Japan in 2000, it has had severe water marks on all of the glass.

It was so bad on the front that I had to get it replaced straight away, only after I almost had an excursion off the road the first time I drove it at night.

Well it has been one of those things where it pisses me off when I Chamois my car and I notice it.

I have tried just about everything with no good results, until the other night after having a few beers whilst polishing some alloy with Autosol, that I though "hmmmmmmmm, I wonder?"

So I gave the Autosol a go on a small part of glass, and it seemed to do the job pretty well, all be it still requiring a lot of elbow grease.

Knowing that I was possibly a bit inebriated, particularly as how impressed I was with myself, I thought I'd better leave it for the night and see the damage I had done the next day with sober eyes.

So, get up the next day with images of cloudy glass, but no! It was actually fantastic!!! So I had a bit more of a dig and realised, way too much effort!!!

So I ordered a kit from here:

http://glasspolish.com.au/shop/glass-repair/do-it-yourself/75mm-diy-glass-scratch-repair-kit

Managed to do all the windows except the front in about an hour and I am really impressed with the results. I was a bit concerned after the first run with the abrasive disk but the polish that came with the kit made it all good.

The tighter areas I went back and used the Autosol on a rag.

Well, I know not very exciting but I could have done this 10 years ago and not cracked the with my glass every time I washed my car!

Let me know if you have any questions. I would have posted pictures, but glass is a bitch to focus on.

Cheers.

duuuuuudeeeee...

you're going to hate me for asking this - but contact an old "grandma grandpa" windscreen shop.. and ask for "rouge polish"

its a fine dry pink powder. and you wet a sock n dip it in the bag - then rub rub rub... gets it out in a flash - faster if you use a rotary...

but yeah - it's the real deal. and it's cheap too

i paid $8 for my baggies' worth..

Has anybody ever been able to remove scratches that are visible such as sandpaper scratches, somebody used sandpaper on my glass previously to remove a sticker.

I have light scratches on the windscreen on my work car, got a nice arc scratch from the wiper blade that someone has done probably due to sand on the wiper! is there any product to take that off? they're very light scratches but annoying when facing direct sunlight none the less....

that scratch kit is sort of decent.

but please don't use it with a buffer/air tool.

use a high cutting pad like mags w7000 soft foam cutting compound

or

http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/festool/heavy_cutting_pad_6

with a cutting compound like megs diamond cut

and a makita polisher 180mm 9227CB

Yeah, I just used a drill on the lowest speed setting.

Boris, David, this should remove the scratches your talking about, otherwise they have another kit for deep scratches.

Cheers.
