If you search TIF, you'll find a Soarer which has rear lights which are entirely clear....as I recall, the owner sourced then from Japan..... there was a bit of a debate about whether they were strictly legal

Yes, very nice people, BUT if I recall correctly these are NOT legal for "On-road" use in some, if not all states in Australia. (There was a discussion re this very subject in the ALSC archives (Now accessible via here).
However the GOOD news is, they're perfectly legal in.......NEW ZEALAND.....Yay us
aslong as you have a red reflector on the back of your car..apparently it should be legal..unless there is a fine print in all of that, that i havent heard of!

The price looks OK, Eddie, at first glance. We paid USD140 recently for one new light (we already have a '97) however, that came with complete plug 'n' play loom and globes (luckily, because they are all wedges). So these ones are expensive, in the end. The fact they're in Taiwan isn't reassuring, either
Of course postage and duty was on top of the $140, for ours.
Has anyone here tried replacing the lens? I have seen the lens alone on EBay, but not much cheaper than a whole taillight.
IMO the Japanese lights aren't much better looking than the early model lights. The '94-'95 and the '96 and on are nice. The Clear Corners ones are superb, but they're also $2000+ a set!

hey guys and gals
was looking at the tail lights on that black soarer, and i was thinking they look like prelude tail lights from a 1999-2002 (i think but) they look like they have been turned up side down. and modified, could this possiably be an easier way??
