How involved and costly is debadging? Looking at removing front 'T', rear 'T' and rear 'soarer'?

Adam, I'm not too sure about the front bar, but the rear boot will cost you about $400 upwards to have the holes welded and repainted. I have just had mine done and it looks sh*t hot.

my panel beater has removed the badges on my car and included the cost in the insurance claim...hehehe i also wanted the spoiler taken off, but there were about 8 huge holes underneath and it couldn't be done without warping the boot lid

Scott, I did shop around, some panel beaters quoted over $500. There is a bit of work involved, first they will remove the boot lid, weld it, sand it, respray it, bake it and refit it. I find that people are always saying, after the fact, that you got ripped off. Where were those people's comments when we asked if anyone knew of any good panel beaters. Panel beating may be a bit cheaper in NSW, but I believe that I got a reasonable price.

thats all that counts if your happy with it good for you,all im saying is that it is a rip off.i have been doing the •••• long enough now,all it involves is filling the holes sanding it smooth, primer, blend the colour and give it two coats of clear ,i charge $250 to paint a bar and i cant even justify that lol, might go to SA for a working holiday and make a killing .

If you want to do it the cheap way, rip the badges off, put a bit of bog in the holes, buy a cheap can of touch up paint and Bobs your uncle. It will look pretty average and the bog will probably fall out in a year or so, but it should cost no more than $20 and an hour of your time.

I've just read that you can remove each 'T' and replace it with an 'L' from a SC430 which is bigger and will cover the holes. Just cut the tabs off the 'L' and rely on double sided tape to hold it in place. Has anyone done this? Will it cause problems with leaking or rust?

Alan, the point is you have to fill the holes where the pins went, and re-spray it.

hey i would like to take my lexus (L) badges off, cos i have TRDPSI numberplates and TRD sticker on the back windscreen and it looks a bit funny. ok my question is cos it has the L badges there ( and it would of originally had the T ) do u think there just stuck on, or do u think there got holes in the bonnet and boot? im a bit scared to take them off cos i don't know what to expect.

Probably just stuck on. The original Toyota holes may be there though. Only one real way to find out.

The SC430 Griffin does a great job on the front. It's heaps bigger so no probs covering the holes.

2004 Soarer Gryphon badge on my 1992 GTL. Took a fair amount of persuasion with a Dremel to make it fit. Bought from Yahoo Japan, but I understand Jeff from F1 Kits has them too. |

Lawrence, why did you have to use a dremel? to remove the pins? why not just stick it on, i presume it covers the original griffin holes? I was thinking of replacing my rear t badge with the new griffin, leaving the 'soarer' and buying a 'lexus' that way i dont have to get anything resprayed or filled. Anyone got any ideas?

The SC430 badge fits on a moulding with clips which then goes on the grille. These just broke off mine easily, no dremmel needed.
