Does anyone know anything good to use that will get all the sticky/plastic stuff off that's on the paintwork when you take your badges off? Without damaging the paintwork!

I paraphrase Peter Burrett from a post some time ago, but the answer Keenan is that the substance you want comes in 78 litre containers costing about $100 a refill .
Worse, you will need only a very small amount but fortunately the remaining 77.9 litres can be put put to other good uses.

In fact, you probably have half a container of it lying around behind your back seat right now

...but remember to wash it off after use.

What about Eucalyptus Oil? It's normally excellent for getting sticky residue off. I used it to remove the sticky gunge left after removing the wind deflectors from Denise's car without any problems. Just make sure you wash it down afterwards, and you will have a lingering eucalyptus smell for a few days.

Petrol works well, is readily available, don't cost a lot per litre, and can be transformed into gasoline at the stroke of an air ticket... don't bugger around with other proprietary solvents; in general, sticky substances will tend to be hydrocarbon based.... it works for road tar, for contact adhesive, for the residue under removed stuck on badges, but don't sniff it

Are the badges just stuck on?

When I bought the car it already had the Lexus badges on it and I would like to remove them.

Lexus badges will almost certainly be just stuck on as the mounting lugs don't match and so are normally cut off unless someone has gone to the trouble of filling the original holes and drilling new ones....and painting the boot lid; not likely.
The glue used on badges can be a bit of a problem though. It is easy enough to get off but can leave discolouration in the paint, especially on white cars. My TT has "Lexus" permanently inscribed into the paint of the boot lid even though the badge is long gone

i removed my toyota badge with the hope of sticking a large griffin symbol over it. I found that the sticky crap despite appropriate rubbing with petrol and whatever other solvents i could find generally removed a lot of bubbled paint underneath the ring leaving an impression that only a huge to this day unproduced griffin badge would cover. Henceforth i reapplied the toyota badge and vowed never again to mess with the exterior rear of my car.
