Long story short, I'm halfway backed out of a parking spot down at the local Blockbuster and some typical 'Soccer Mom' in a 4WD that couldn't see me at all backs right into my baby.
Just when I was about to get around to fixing up everything with my car, this had to happen!

It was 100% her fault so her insurance will cover it, I just have to sort out all that crap on Monday.
Does it look like a straightforward job that most smash repairers can take care of, or should I look into taking it to someone that has more experience with Soarers etc? (I'm in Sydney)

If you have a chance at all then take it to Mark Stewart Smash repairs. He is fabulous at matching paints and he also does an extremely good job (he's got my front bar sitting there right now).
Mark Stewart Smash Repairs 376 Pittwater Rd North Manly, NSW 2100 Phone: 9907 1000
Don't take it to any smash repairer. Only the good ones will be able to match the paint since it's probably faded a bit over time.

weather it is a soarer or a datsun 120y a panel is a panel ,you will find most of that will pull out very easily, and being in sydney that will cost loads for that!!!!!!!!!!! being insurance make sure you get everything out of them, get them to take the windows out so there is no rough masking up around window edges,no doubt they will put in to paint the whole side ,bootlid and turret.tell them you dont want it blended between the quarter glass and rear window.good luck I was quoted $1500 to repair and paint this,
in the end i fixed it for $70 sanded with 2000 wet and dry ,buffed and polished ,then rang the dent wizard, highly recommened the dent wizard for those of you that have small dents where the paint isnt cracked .cheers

I don't have any witnesses apart from my brother who was in the car with me at the time and my dad who happened to pull into the carpark about a minute after it happened.
The other driver was pretty cool about it though, she was genuinely sorry and the first thing she said was that's it's ok, it was totally her fault and her insurance will cover it. So hopefully she won't pull a swifty and go changing her story or anything like that.
Cheers for that Benny, that's so handy because I'm just up Pittwater road at Mona Vale so I'll definitely be taking the car to Mark.

Mark gave me an on the spot quote of $3500+, and for some reason he took pictures of my rego sticker, number plate and engine number... I think he thinks I stole the car or something.
Oh and somehow it turned out to be my fault and the other driver's insurance won't pay for it.

Digital photos are standard practice. They send those to the insurance company instead of writing it all down and possibly making a mistake. They should also have photographed all damage. It usually means the damage and quotes can be assessed without sending someone out to see the car. Cheaper.
Are you insured? If so, your company will fight that question with the other company. If not, you will have to take it up yourself based on your witness reports.

yeah how the does that work, stick to your guns and make then pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!then again if your reversing you are in the wrong straight away so they say,and she was reversing to, by the sound of it.interesting to see what happens now ,after she has admitted liability .

You are NOT in the wrong if you had stopped reversing and blew your horn at the reversing other party and they continued in an unsafe manner despite your warnings and hit your stationary vehicle.

This is what happened:
I was sitting in the parking spot waiting to come out and the 4WD is sitting behind me and just forward like this:
So she sits there for a good two minutes waiting for a parking spot IN FRONT OF HER. I've got room to get out so I decide to back out slowly and I stop and wait just behind her because her ridiculously oversized tank of a vehicle is totally obscuring my view of any traffic coming past her.
Then her stupid, massive bloody tank of car was blocking someone going in or out of a parking spot in front of her so she APPARENTLY checks her mirrors and backs right into me.
I blew my horn about a second before she hit me.

So she ran into you, albeit backwards. Her fault as she didn't check behind her. I would have thought that the panel damage would show that that was the case.

You reverse into someone, you are wrong. With the visible evidence of damage on the side of your car and not on a corner, it is difficult to see a case for her.

I agree with David, Carl, stick to your guns. About 6 months ago a taxi merged into my lane (and the side of my car) going around a corner. Clearly his fault and to top it off, there just happened to be 2 on-duty Star Group Police Officers on the corner who witnessed everything. Even so, his insurance company still accused me and threatened to take me to court, etc based on no evidence. The police report had been delayed and so they tried to bluff me, which obviously didn't work!
Anyway, long story short it took over 4 months but eventually they paid up in full and we didn't go to court etc. Once the assessor sees the damage I think it will be pretty clear who hit who and she won't have a leg to stand on. Plus it could help to write her a letter addressing the fact that she changed her story. If she still doesn't listen, than get your insurance company or lawyer to draft up a letter threatening legal action. That usually does the trick! Either way, good luck and don't back down because eventually you will win!!

Insurance companies always try to bluff out of paying to start with - they have nothing to lose and sometimes it works. Just stick it out and you'll be right.

Exactly right Damien, I remember the lady at the taxi company had the gall to outright lie on the phone to me and tell me that she had already spoken to the cops who witnessed the accident and they said they didn't see anything, or what they did see wouldn't hold up in court. After I got off the phone I called the cop and he'd never even heard of her, let alone spoken to her. Needless to say he wasn't happy so I happily passed on her number!

i was told by someone working for a specialist insurance co that its basically standard practice for them to deny all claims at first, and then see if you'll go away.
a legal letterhead usually does the trick of getting cooperation from either the other party and/or the insurance co. just keep hassling both.
