The reason they're covered in rust is that they're steel. They are spoked wheels like old MG or motorcycle wheels. They're been painted or plated gold. They take a lot of work to keep looking good and they can get out of whack too. Those rusty bits near the rim (at the end of each spoke) are spoke nipples, or nuts which keep each spoke tensioned.
They would look pretty good if they weren't rusty
Oh, and they can be pr!cks of things to keep clean.

Oh, and you'll probably find that the kit they have used to convert it form studs to knockoff (providing the knockoff isnt fake and covering 5 studs), is actually illegal in Australia.

The spinner (propeller) thingies were common in the 70s. This is a very old-fashioned looking wheel, except for the colour. Most of these wheels, in my experience, had chrome spokes with either chrome or alloy rims. Cheap wheel has zinc-plated or silver-painted spokes. One thing about spoked wheels is that they give a very good ride, because the spokes flex, each one is like a spring. As mentioned earlier though they are not without hassles.

I have tryed to get in contact with the company, just waiting for an email address so i can send a picture to them to hopefully tell me exactly what the wheel is..i still havent had the chance to check them out closely, but they are "knock-off", apparently with some kind of hub adapter. More details to come!
