Fuel from my car is leaking from the fuel cap. Its going down the side of the car and its gong to ruin the paint. Does anyone know or are there instructions on how hoses are going to the tank and how to check them? I think the hose thats getting the air out is not doing it properly. Any ideas?

Probably the restrictor to prevent the use of leaded fuel that is fitted when the car is complied is not sealed properly. This is common. The drain tube should prevent any leakage getting on the paint so as Peter says it is probably blocked.

Yes, I agree - I had the same problem and it turned out to be exacerbated by a block drain tube. Push a thin piece of wire gently down the tube until it emerges just behind the right rear wheel. Then blast the rest of the rubbish out with compressed air. As the drain is partly plastic tube, its not a good idea to JUST use compressed air as it could blast the tube off the metal tube it joins to. Oh, and yes, I bet you've got a poorly fitting restrictor too. There's a good link for the fix to this somewhere on this site. You use Loctite Radiator & Petrol tank repair putty (RPK1 at repco etc). If your REALLY keen you can pull out the whole neck and have the thing silver-soldered in.

I'm sure somebody's going to tell us how easy it is to get a fuel cap to fit the unrestricted neck, but that's why I chose to fix mine - I could still use the same filler cap. OK, you can't get leaded any more, but some filling stations (I hesitate to use the word 'service' unless it's in NZ) have a diesel hose amongst the 3 or 4 at a pump. Admittedly you'd have to be in a hurry or incredibly stupid but you COULD just accidentally pick up the diesel hose - and that would not be good!

Yeah edit away, i made it for the ALSC so people could learn from my mistakes and my own experiences, so as long as the lessons and overall message is there for people to learn from go for it. if its a bit bulky (or has too many informal pictures) then edit your heart out.
i also found the disclaimer ages ago and thought i sent it on to rob, i will email it through tonight if you like.

Oh, and it's dead easy to get a fuel cap for the non-restricted filler....the one you already have. It is the factory cap anyway. The restrictors are cleverly designed to use the factory cap. It does fit better on the factory non-restricted filler though.
