Absolute bollocks.

Woke up this morning to find a lovely fresh key scratch all over the passenger's side front fender and has gone through to the undercoat.

Anyway, what's the best way to touch this up on the cheap? I'm thinking of touching up the particular area and buffing lightly over with an orby for the meantime until I can afford to get the whole car done.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

does insurance usually cover a key scratch?

not sure if it would be worth it unless they keyed the whole car though

Bummer Jose, commiserations .

Others may have better/different ideas, BUT, I would use a brush type touch-up bottle, and do 2 or 3 goes to fill in the scratch, and build the paint up till it's above the surface of the surrounding paint, then buff back until level.

ps: Your Toyota paint code is (202)

Good luck with it

Jose, thats terrible mate. Very sorry to hear it.
I have a little experience, and this is worth a try before anything else.
Usually the owner of the vehicle is the best person to attempt this, because he cares more about being careful, having patience and a steady hand.
the secret is to just get paint inside the centre if the scratch. If you get any outside the scratch you can see it quite readily.
You need a very fine artists brush (or school kits art class brush). The brush has to be very skinnny, second hand or used, so so the bristles have sone a little stiff due to use & a little lack of cleaning. Pull most of the bristles out, so ther is about 3 left that are twisted together or all together. Get the idea?
Dip the brush (3 bristles) in the paint to get the bristles wet. You want to see say one drip of paint in the middle of the bristles, that is not wider really than the scratch. Then rest the tip in the centre of the scratch only. The drip will start to flow, so then move the hand carefully along the scratch to cover the centre and the visible undercoat. The aim is not to fill the scratch with paint, just 1/3rd up or so to cover the undercoat.
You will be surprised how steady you get wuith your hand once you get started. You will be better than any spray painter, because he does not own the car.
Keep a rag dabbed in thinners handy in car you go outside the scratch. Just a scent of thinners on the rag.
Email me if you have any queries. I have a bunch of scratches on my car repaired that way, by a penl beater. He went outside the line - hence why you should do it. Its hardly noticeable. You job should be better. Steady hand & steady breathing.
If you don't like the outcome it won't have cost anything and will be no worse than what you have now.
Email me if you have any queries.

Haven't had a chance to cut back the excess on the touch up (some areas went out of the scratch mark) so hopefully some rubbing compound will take care of that?

Someone has punched a dint into my bonnet on my car, I am going to tell my insurance company that someone has taken a bat to the whole car and if they okay it I will take a bat to the car myself and get all my scratches, dints, paint ruins and dodgy body kit fitting fixed.

Naughty Don, naughty hahahahah

Michael, I haven't had a chance to start cutting it back (I've got excess touch up either side of the scratch edge). Hopefully will have some time tonight to fix it up a little.

Bugger - the aim was really to have no extra tough up. Now you have to be careful not to get cutting compound in the scratch, as it will show up and can remove the touch up paint.

Jose, that really sucks man. I know how it feels - had the rear end of mine done last year. The only real way to fix it is with a professional respray of the area... from what I've been told anyway. Just le t the car get dirty on the outside (after giving it a good wax coating first). It'll still look awesome, being black.

Not real big into airbrushing etc, plus it's a daily driver which would probably bring it even more unwanted attention.

Yeah Same I know what you mean mate, I'll just keep it as unnoticeable as possible until I can afford a full spray.
