I have been playing with one for a while and it is magic.
One thing though, what the hell are they made from?

I'm sure company which makes them will give me an answer that it is sourced from ph neutral clay only found up stream in the Amazon river. Collected only on the 29th of February by the virgins from the local aztech village, mixed with secret herbs and spices, blah blah blah.

It looks like and feels like playdoh, I may try it to see how it works.

Is it bloody playdoh, with something extra?
anyone with lab or industry background here who maybe able to elaborate further?

Dunno what it's made out of, but what are the results on them? I hear that if you drop it by accident on the ground it's the end of it.

Correct Jose.
if it lands on the ground it's finished.
When you paying $45 per bar it could be a little frustrating if that happens

That's why you have to break it up to smaller chunks before using, better to throw away third of it then the lot.

Yeah problrm with meguiars clay bar is the size. You end up with 10 bottles of Quik Detail spray. You can buy a big jar of the clay from autobarn for about $100 or go to your local upmarket panel shop and buy some for around $60. 3M used to make an awesome one.

This site has all the details about what clay is made from, what it does and even has links to places to buy clay.

According to one of the sites the bars are suitable for metal and for glass. They did not mention plastic, so I am disinclined to be the first to try.

Robin,
I seem to remember someone trying it on the headlamps, and the results were rather less than thrilling, as it's too abrasive for plastics.

I just bought the Meguir's one last week, and I'm amazed by the results. It's taken the overspray off and my car is starting to look green again. I'll post up some pics of a panel half and half when I get a chance. These really are great!!!

is this stuff really that good?

i thought rob was just getting excited about it a year or so ago because his old eyes couldnt tell any better. having said that he has some of the best kept toyotas i have seen.

i would be worried it was putting thousands of tiny marks all over my paint... only to be seen when i went out in the sun.
