Hey guys. Been out and about during the last few weeks to try and find a respectable spray painter that can respray my entire car, and won't take it for a joy ride while I'm not around. I have tried doing a search, and personally visited all the businesses that were recommended on this website.
Although I DO believe in the whole 'you get what you pay for' concept, I am only prepared to spend $5500 at the most for the paintjob.
ALL the reputable spraypainters (including the ones that were recommended from this forum) that I have been to have given me prices that reach beyond the $6500 mark.
So can anyone give me some names and places of RESPECTABLE spraypainters that are around Sydney?

Michael, I have visited his workshop already. He also gave me a quote that was around the $6500 mark.

Vinh,

$6500 sounds like a fair price. I paid $6000 for a full 2 pack respray on the Rx-7 8 years ago and figured a similar quality job would be nearly double that now. That was in Liverpool at Bensons. Very good job but took months to complete.

As for joy riding I have never had a problem with any businesses doing this to any of my rides. I think if you find a quality tradesman you are comfortable talking to none of this will be an issue. Ask to see other examples of there work, use word of mouth(as you are), and check out the premises.

Oh yeah, if you have an old set of rims and tyres, chuck em on. Despite their best efforts you nearly always end up with some over spray on you rims?!?

On the other hand Briffas in Morebank did my Gemini and I had to take it back as the job was riddled with crazy cracks and blemishes.

Obviously this info is nearly a decade old and both businesses are likely to have different tradies on site now and possibly different managers.

I'm sure Michael and other paintshops in his league do great work, but isn't $6K an over capitalisation? Given that most of our vehicles sell for less that $15K, spending almost 50% of the vehicles worth on this seems disproportionate....

Lawwrence, thats how I see it too, but for a lot of people here their car is such a big hobby for them they don't think or care about what it's worth, and good for them. For me, my car is something I can be enthusiastic about, and spend good money to keep it in good condition, but I'd never consider spending that kind of money on it either.
