OK The drivers side mirror has a big crack in the casing from an unfortunate incident with a bin. Aaron Klaver was able to source another drivers side door mirror assembly so i should be able to replace it easy enough. BUT Rather than replace the whole mirror by what looks like removing the top inner portion of the interior trim, is there a way to just replace the mirror housing assembly of the whole thing, ie the things with the motors in it, the mirror, and the casing but NOT the bit that connects to the car itself. Lets see if i can attach a picture to show you what i mean.
that way i could hopefully just remove the cracked part from the car leaving the trim intact on the inside of the car. Does anyone know if this part can be romoved and replaced while the other bit is still connected to the car? I noticed there was a small piece of grey plastic underneath the mirror, but i couldn't work out how to remove it.

Not exactly sure what you're asking here, Damien. There's a tutorial on mirror removal. You don't have to do anything inside the car- take out glass and there are 5-6 screws inside which (with some jiggling, after removal) leave you with the two halves of the mirror shell.
