At a guess, it's what used to hold the grab handle
Darryn's on the money. Its a bolt and a wide washer used to hold the door-arch trim in place, substituting for what would usually be the top of the grab handle. It's the one bit about my pod installation I'm not happy with - I only did the fitting of all of that about 2 weeks ago. I'm still yet to organise something that disguises that bolt better.
The problem is that there is a rectangular hole about 1cm x 3cm cut into the trim where the clip that holds the grab-handle in place is recessed into, hence the need for that dirty great big wide washer. Definitely needs something though, otherwise the trim sags forward with the weight of the pod.

It's not too bad to drive. The "drivers point of view" shot makes it seem a lot more cluttered than it really is in reality. The guages are more just there in peripheral vision when your head's up watching the road.
I've wired the guage lights to the dimmer switch for the dash cluster, so can actually dim the guages a bit at night

Alan - I dont believe so mate. I did an MC day on the skidpan on the weekend, with everything fitted, and it didnt hamper my driving at all, could still see the cones I was after marking exit points etc. I'm a bit shorter, and have found that the sideview mirror actually creates more of a blindspot; mind you, that whole pillar and mirror area is a fairly reasoonable blindspot that I think is kind of specific to the soarer.
The worst bit initially was turning right at night, as with the tint on my windows its always been a bit difficult to see, but then with the bright guage lights giving me a sort of slight night-blindness, it became worse. Thats why I then rewired the lights to the dimmer switch

yeah i find that my boost gauge reflects off my drivers side window at night but i've got a switch to turn the backlight off. I only turn it on when i'm hooning.

the a piller is screwed in by two screws behind the handle. by the looks of it it seems the piller mount is held in by screws (correct me if i'm wrong shane). Ebay sells heaps of those piller mounts.

Vinh - I was under the impression he didnt do them for soarers, only supras?
Steven - yes, Alan's right on both accounts. I got my pod from ebay, for like $20...I think it came to $35 delivered to my door. I've used similar screws to the ones used elsewhere in the interior to attach it to the A-pillar trim. It's still not perfect, probably really needs a bit of heat gun treatment and some remoulding to get it fitting as snug and smooth as I really want it. The A-pillar trim is held in place by the screws/clips that the interior handle is attached to.
The guages simply push into the openings through the front. They are supplied with a plastic brace thing that then slides in from the rear of the guage, and tightens up onto the pod, sandwhiching the guage firmly in place.
