I was reading through the thread 'Lights in dash' and saw very interesting different dashes. I was just wondering has everyone got this 'TEMS Sport' light in their dash? I cant see mine. I have a 1994 UZZ31. Is this standard on all UZZ31s or has this been added to the dash in later models?

When I switch my TEMS to sport mode, a light comes on the dash displaying "active high". I have a 1992 UZZ31.

| Here is a diagram of the instrument display from the NZ translated owner's book of the Soarer. Here is a display taken from the 1993 Lexus Owner's Manual of the Canadian delivered SC coupes. Here is a photo of the US delivered dash taken from an advertisement in the July 1991 issue of Car and Driver magazine. It may have discussed before but I think someone should obtain one of these analogue displays and see if they can fit in the Soarer. I don't why it wouldn't. Preferably from a wrecked Canadian SC coupe with the kilometer speedo.

Off topic: Neil, is it possible to change the colour of that light, the PWR light and TRC light, if you were to do a dash conversion (to blue) in my car?

I have blown bulbs in my dash too. I'm about to take the whole thing out for a clean. Does anyone know the part number for the bulbs that show "TEMS SPORT" etc? Is it one of the bulbs listed here, or are they just standard parts I can get anywhere? http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/281/145631.html?1175713462

Resurrecting an old thread here... but my "TEMS SPORT" light comes on when I boot my engine up, but disappears after a couple of seconds. I broke the plastic switch and it refuses to stay together with Araldyte, so I might get the big guns out and get some of that super-insane Loctite stuff on the case. But what's with the light turning off?

Mine does the same, even if the switch is on "Normal" I presume it's just part of the start up procedure, the same as the air bag light. Unless someone knows otherwise I don't think it's a problem.

I'll have to take the Soarer up to a twisty road and give it hell for leather with the TEMS on normal then sport, check if there's still a difference... I'll report back later.

Well - the light must be buggered. I went up and down the hill going hard as possible around the bends with TEMS on sport, and the car felt great. Did it with TEMS on normal, and I didn't exactly feel safe! It's conclusive that it's still working for me.

I'm an idiot. I fixed the switch and the light came back. Must be something in there that knows when the switch is broken and turns off your TEMS sports mode. Meh.

I think your experiment on the twisty road is conclusive proof that psychology can play a part in how our cars perform. You switching on a broken switch was a sort of placebo.

It's like the optimism with Ducati's notoriously inaccurate speedos. It's not how fast you're going, it's how fast you think you're going. After fixing the switch, there's a massive difference. I asked a passenger if they could feel the difference, turning the TEMS on and switching it off after a minute or so. Love the placebo! |
