Has anybody seen a guide or tips on mounting apexi units into the woodgrain trim in front of where the passenger sits, I know a few people have done this ...

Im interested to know how much clearance is in behind the woodgrain trim, and basically if its as simple as cutting the holes in the woodgrain and mounting, or if the dash needs to be hacked into to give enough clearance behind the wood ?

This is for the console above the glove box:
Under the passenger side dash you will find a couple of christmas tree clips, two from memory. Using a pair of long nose pliers put the pliers under the head of the clips and carefully pull down. This should result in a trim plate coming down. Put aside.

Next you will see a couple of screws that were hidden by the trim plate. Undo these. They hold the glove box unit in place at the front.

Next open the glove box and you will see two (or is it 3, I can't remember) square plastic screw covers. These are bastards to get out cleanly, but I have found a very thin long bent nail works best. There should be a tiny hole on top of the screw covers, use this hole. Once the covers are off, remove the screws.

Now, very very gently pull on the whole glove box area. It comes out as one piece and you definitely don't have to pull the glove box apart.

Ok, you now have the access you require.

There are 3 wingnuts holding the dash wood trim in place. They are on really tight and the only way to get them off is to use a pair of long handled pliers. Forget trying to use your hands, all you will do is skin you knuckles. The wingnut closest to the vent register is the hardest to get at but if you stick your head under and have a look you should see it. Undo all three wingnuts but don't pull just yet. There is one or two screws near the passenger side vent, really tiny ones. Undo and store in a safe place because they are an unusual size.

Ok, the next part will be a bit scary for the first time because you think you are gonna break something. Just very very carefully pull at the trim. There are a few spring clips holding the trim in place, so gently does it. If all goes to plan you should have a wood trim in your hands.

A special note, the centre vent register WILL be brittle, they all are. undo the screws very very carefully and hopefully you won't break it.

Andrew V. supplied me this instructions works well
