This happened to me about 2 weeks ago too. To top it off the interior door handle for the same door broke on the same day :-(
The outside door handle is pretty easy and cheap to fix, provided you didn't snap the metal arm.

I bought a lexus sc400 a couple of days ago. The first passanger i took for a spin in my new baby didn't realise the doors automatically lock and when we pulled up, went to open the door and snapped the interior passanger handle. Apart from being distraught i had to spend the rest of the day calling places to find the part here in Canberra.
So now i'm getting the part through a toyota parts specialist for $66 and have a panal beater who is going to try to put it in for me. Does anyone know how much it will roughly cost me should my panal beater not be able to get it done?? And if it will be a big job...

I'm very upset :-( The car was suppose to go through the pits this week but everything has had to be ushed back until i get this door handle fixed.

Charmaine it looks a pretty easy job. Theres a tutorial on here on how to remove the door trim. From there it would simply be a matter of swapping the handles around.

The inside door handle is really easy to fit. You will need to take off the door trim and the rest is pretty much self explainitory.

The door trim is held in by screws around the edges and bottom and one screw behind the handle (you need a flat headscrew driver to remove the plastic bit to reveal the screw).

All up the job will take you 30 minutes or if you get a friend who's experianced with taking apart car interiors they should be able to to it in 10 minutes.

Yep, very simple job to try yourself. :-)
