Hi Guys,

Couldnt really find anything in search.

Ive taken apart the center console plastic bit around the hazard lights button, climate control button, shift stick and drink holder (i assume you know where im talking about now) which was already spray painted blue when i got it.

Im either respraying it a pearl silver or black but i wanted to know if i should remove the blue already existant on it? Will it make a difference? ill apply a few coats of the selected colour.

Where should i get the spray paint from? i heard that stuff from Repco is recommended. Will the spray paint from Autobarn do?

Im getting the carbon fibre coloured dash so should i go black or pearl silver or anyone else have a suggested colour that i should choose?

Thanks ill post up some pics when i install it again tomorrow.

Im guessing you dont know what type of paint is already on it, so just be aware that some different paint types dont play well together. For instance, spraying enamel on acrylic can cause the acrylic to 'bleed' through the enamel thus ruining your job (time to rub it right back and start again). If you see it happening, dont bother trying to cover it with more paint. Start again.

Rubbing it back before painting is ALWAYS the best option, however it is obviously more work. How much you do is determined by how much you can be bothered.

Often a scuff and spray can be sufficient (colour dependant of course).

Thanks for the advice Jeff

What do you suggest, acrylic or enamel? im definently after a gloss finish if possible which wont rub off. Maybe i can apply a 'cover' coating to seal the paint.

I dont mind the extra work man i aint a lazy .. and its for my soarer so time and money should never be an issue!

Every fibre of my being wants to tell you to use 2 pak. However thats probably not viable for you.

Acrylic is the easiest to deal with if you dont have a lot of spraying experience.

Probably your best bet is to have a chat with the guys at wherever your getting your material from, they should know the products they're selling and be able to advise accordingly.

I'd hate to spray that particular section at all considering that a lot of things will come into contact with it, and your paint will eventually end up being damaged and scratched.

If I were you, I'd contact Aaron Klaver or someone wrecking their Soarer and get myself a factory console as they are the best in terms of longetivity. 10-15 years on and you still won't notice any scratches on these consoles.

This is the main reason why I didn't end up painting my console, although I painted everything else (air con, ashtray, etc)
