I want to seal up my soarer such that external noises like my exhaust, won't be heard or reduced from the inside. Anyone know the spot to wack in padding or perhaps other methods? I want a quieter cabin.

Or just get a quieter exhaust. One problem can be that if the hanging mounts are under tension due to the shape of the exhaust, then more noise can be transmitted through the straps to the floor of the cabin.

under rear seat and behind rear seat section seperating boot from cabin area is a good idea to sound deaden (dyno matt) and also rear quarter panel fill helps i have found but like the above peoples mentioned exhaust mounting have alot to do with sound transmission to the cabin.. Try to check if the whole exhuast or most of it is rubber mounted.. If metal mounting is applied makes things noisy..

Ken, get a cross pipe resonator put in your exhaust.
Cost $120. Reduces cabin noise perfectly :-)

Thanks guys on your reply.

If I wore earmuffs while driving I'd look like a total Doof haha I don't want to reduce the sound of the exhaust really or do anything to the exhaust, I like it the way it is. Its only when I accelerate then its loud. Its quiet at idle. I think I'm being picky here.

Cara gave me the answer that was after though. I know I gotta put dynamat, but not sure where, but now I know.

The exhaust is held on with rubber. So that should be alright yeah?

Thanks guys!!

Which is cheaper cara?

I've never heard of the deadner stuff at the paint shops. I'm going to get some dynamat tomorow thats all, so I guess I'll get enough for my doors at the moment, and maybe the rear seats too.

Hey Ken, I'm in the same boat as you, I got my exhaust enlarged to 2.5" about a year ago and it sounds ripper! But now I'm starting to get annoyed with the constant drone when I'm cruising at 100kms on the highway (also in the back seat it's even worse).

I'm just about to place an order at
http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au for some new carpet, and I'm gonna get some sound proofing underlay as well, in the hope that it will cut out a lot of exhaust noise.
When I get it all in my car I'll let you know if theres any noticeable difference. Unless anyone already has this underlay and can tell me if I'm wasting my money?...

Heya Tom, I ended up getting Dynamat bulk pack. So once I get time I will put them in and also let you know how it went and how I put them in.

But at the same time, I like the sound of my exhaust heard from inside the car... damn. The only reason why I want to dampen the exhaust sound if because I want to get the full affects of my audio upgrade while I'm crusing at say 100km/hr. Actually my exhaust doesn't drone its pretty quiet, but its rather the road noise at high speeds.

So I had some time to put in Dynamat and carpet underlay into the backseat of the car. The difference is very noticeable. I'd say it cut the exhaust noise down to about 30-40 percent (measured with my ear :-)). I also did the same for the spare wheel in the boot (the boot is going go through a custom sub installation). I'm happy with the result.

It would have been good to have Dynamat on all the surface of the backseat but there was no need since some areas were non-resonant.

I also did the same to the roof of the car.

Next is the floor of the car and doors.

Ken what exhaust do you have? I have a Trust exhaust on mine (twin tip) and it is louder than stock but not as loud as my old Soarer... absolutely love it (oh, and NO resonators). Was it hard to fit on the Dynamat?

Heya Jose, I've got twin Blitz exhaust on mine and love it too. Not sure if mine has resonators or not but full a exhaust has been done by the original owner. It seems pretty quite loud inside but when I asked friends in other cars they said its not loud. So the exhaust noise has quietened but there still road noise - maybe insulating the floors will remedy that? We'll see.

Dynamat wasn't hard to fit. Just need to rub out all the bubbles out of it.
