Merry Christmas and Happy New Year guys and girls. Now, day after Christmas my passenger fell down on its own! Motor runs up and down, window has either come off the track or ? I have taken the skin off ,can push up window easy by hand, have locked it up with small vise grip but need to fix it ! Anyone had this problem before? Simon!

Sounds very much like the window regulator. Can be fixed by patching the broken bits, I recall seeing a fix on clublexus.com. BUT probably best to buy a new one/second hand one from E-bay/Toyota/someone on this site and install it.

Thanks Lawrence, I will look into the regulator, but it does seem to be a mechanical failure as the window can be pushed up and down easy by hand. The electrics appear to work OK. The window does not seem to be attached to the lifting device anymore. I'm sure I will have to try and remove the glass to be sure and that don't look like an easy fun job to be doing on my week off!

It's the regulator.

Same symptoms that I had - it was the regulator...

Here is the repair I referred to - don't know if it is effective or not, but might be worth a go:

Hmm JB weld might do the trick!

In my UZZ30 I used some 'epoxy glue' but it just cracked under the pressure so in the end i just used two clamps on the top and bottom of the regulator to hold the cable in place so it could go up and down properly.

Id love to know how long it lasted as I sold the car soon after!

Looks like it would do the trick to me. Don't get that stuff on your fingers though!

Hi folks, I installed a second hand window regulator in the passenger side on the weekend. The problem now is that the window went down and I can't get it to go back up. Because the window in down and stuck, I cant get in there to remove the regulator and or motor. I have searched the forum and had no luck, so if anyone knows of a procedure to free up the window again, please advise. Cheers

I managed to get the window to go up, by applying 12 volts directly to the window switch. Thanks again Soarer Central for getting me out of the sh#t.

Make sure the Window Lock button is not pressed in on the drivers side door switches.

Sorry for the thread revival but here is my issue;

My passenger side window only goes up. Both switches can bring it up but none gives any response from the motor when I press them down.

Direct power from the battery to the motor confirms that the motor is fine.

Highly likely to be the drivers switch at fault. See if you can take it out and spray contact cleaner through it.

You can then check continuity through the switch when pressing the down button.

As an aside, how do you know the up works if you can't get it to go down....

Cheers

Cameron I have the exact same problem with the passenger only working up not down. Ive bought a second passenger switch but same problem. Ive narrowed it down to the drivers side switch, But dont want to buy another one yet until I test it. I plan do "borrow" a friends before I buy another, as they are easy to take out (no tools) and swap over.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Matt, I can get it to go down with "Direct power from the battery to the motor" After that, I use either of the switches to bring it UP.

I will try what you suggested. Thanks.

Tried a friends driver's side switch and it worked perfect.

I am going to try cleaning mine up. Let's hope that works.

Inside the switch it has 2 plastic posts which activate the plates for + and - inside the switch .

You can completely pull them apart and you will probably find 1 melted post inside . I bought 1 cheap STYLIST Pen from the newsagents and just cut that down to fit and superglued .

$3.50 and all fixed and back to normal . However mine was the passenger switch .
