My 93 UZZ30 autolocks at 20km or so. The drivers door unlocks when I attempt to open it with the interior handle. The passenger door does not. Should it? Cheers Matt.

That is the normal behaviour. Mildly annoys passengers or can result in broken handles.

Passenger door doesn't unlock like the driver's door does. That's normal, but make sure your either quick on the lock release, or that you tell the passenger before they try and tear the handle off, I have had 2 snapped because people have tried to pull harder when it doesn't open. The 1st handle lasted 4 hours before it was snapped off by one of these nOObs. B.

Thanks guys. It annoys my partner a LOT, she wants me to fix it so even though it's not broken I have to sort it out. I like the auto locking as a security feature. Does anyone know if the unlock part on the drivers door is mechanical or electrical? I wonder if with a US drivers door could I retro fit this feature? Cheers Matt.

It's mechanical, and apparently if you use a Lexus locking mech, it'll work. Haven't had the time, money or inclination to do so yet.

why is it so annoying? all they have to do is slide the lock button left first.

Changing the internal door handle to the US one doesn't work, the difference is in the actual locking mechanism (as Darryn said) which apparently isn't fun to change. Someone did a wiring mod to auto-unlock the doors when the ignition was switched off, but I don't remember anymore about it and details were not published at the time.

Could probably just run a wire from the ignition to the unlock button on the drivers door so when the igition turns off, it triggers the unlock? Plan B, cut the pink wire (speed sensor) that goes the auto locking mechanism, but then it won't auto-lock though. |

Yeah -I've been searching for that post for years. Some chap's son figured it out, but I have no idea where I once read about it.

I talked to an car alarm joint today, they said that they should be able to do it with a Cobra immobilser/alarm system as it has programmable settings for the central locking. Probably one of those units that can do the windows and sunroof as well, but price seemed OK - $379 fitted, though that might not include extra's. Any good/bad experience with Cobra alarms/immobilisers out there?

Oh I'm looking for a new alarm as well. Want something better than what I have got (which I don't even know what that is) If you find a place Pen, give me a holler. Unfortunately I don't know of any place.

Peter, Most alarms out there can do windows up/ down ect. But you will need to buy extra modules for it to work. Where ever you get the alarm from they should have these too. Sorry Matt a bit off track. And yes most of the time i forget about the locking system but my mates know what it does so they don't break it. Oh and tonkins in town do a great job with alarms.

Thanks for the info Scott, I will check Tonkins, the place I talked to today didn't fill me with confidence.

I'm just trying to get into the habit of hitting the door unlock switch when I pull up. Saves passengers attempting to wrench my door handle off.

Does anyone have access to a parts epg that could show a door blowup with the locking assembly? I need to take my door apart soon anyway.... Cheers Matt.

Matt the only difference that I'm aware of, apart from being mirror image of each other, is the drivers side may have the 2 seat presets for the driver and the switch panel is more complex - the passenger door only has the window switch.

Thanks Dave. I am actually after the lock and handle assembly really to see if it's possible to retrofit auto unlocking to the passenger door. Cheers Matt.

Matt, I suspect there is an extra tab on the drivers mechanism (not the handle) that moves the lock as well when the handle is pulled. Possibly something that a clever welder could add. Best would be to have both mechanisms out of the car to see the real difference.
