I took my Soarer to The Wash yesterday morning.
Had the car washed, interior basic clean and seats/doors shampoo'd. Cost $84.95, they said allow 1.5 hours and the checkout chick offered me a complimentary coffee and massage. As I was being picked up, I didn't have time for either option.
Collect the car, drive home than have a quick look, seats still a bit grubby, a bird poo lump still there, and a free new white mark where a car or something had rubbed against the front bar.
Take the car back, get told to wait while the guys sets up the video replay, and after standing around for about 5 minutes, decided to get the coffee I missed earlier.
About half way through that, the guy invited me to view the video.
While it's running, he is constantly clicking the screen, either changing camera view or adjusting the speed between 2x, 4x, and up to 16x leaving gaps when the car wasn't in view etc. It was also impossible to know if a segment had been cut due to the constant fiddling.
The cynical side of me thinks he had time to check it before he invited me in, and could have either cut a bit, or knew when to switch the camera view so that any mishap wouldn't be seen.
Realising that he was a pro at this, and I didn't have the time to go through each camera in real time etc, and feeling pretty sure the mark would buff off with eg Scratch-X, I figured it was a losing battle.
When I mentioned the bird poo, he said it was etched into the paint and could only be removed by buffing which they don't do. However, when I pointed out it was a lump sitting on the paint, he rubbed it with his thumb and it started to come off. He must have a pretty abrasive thumb!
So he gets one of the lads over with his squirt bottle and rag and removed it about 90% - I managed to remove it 100% later with just a bit of water, car wash and a woollen mitt.
He also got the lad to go over the seats again, they came up much better, even though the process was just a spray bottle and a rag again.
I was a little surprised at this, as I was thinking they would wet vacuum the velour, but maybe that pulls all sorts of rubbish out from the foam inside the seat, so rubbing it in is the standard cure. Any comments on that?
Generally the car came up a treat, just the white mark on the front bumper, missed bird poo and not doing the seats properly left me less than 100* satisfied with the service.
The glass is nice and clean at any rate.
The reason I went there was to get the velour seats done, as I can do an excellent job of the rest myself, but don't have experience with upholstery.
I probably won't go there again and will do some research on cleaning the seats myself, or check out a different place.
As I hadn't specifically asked to have the carpets cleaned, they are still a bit grubby, mainly around the door sill, so it would have been a good idea to have asked for that - if it had been done properly.
