Hey hey,
Tried to open the door last night... nothing ><
I suspect that crappy plastic mechanism that operates the door has snapped.
Before I go and perform open heart surgery on the door, is there anything I should know about?
Ie. Can the clip be fixed with superglue? Do I need a replacement part? Do i need to sell my kidneys to fund this? Need any special tools/special techniques to access it?

Matthew, the bar is most likely bent from the window going down. You need to carefully straighten it so it fits in the proper hole easily. The bend is just where the pic shows one as broken on the tutorial.
I did mine about 2 years ago, and the new clip broke again recently, probably due to stress from not having the bar straight enough.
As the electric lock was also playing up, and I was concerned about the bar snapping due to having been bent before, I decided to remove the whole thing and do it properly.
Took a couple of hours, as it's not easy to maneuver the mechanism in and out past the window runner, but we found a dodgy solder joint and fixed that as well, which made it all worth while.
I also fitted a plastic zip lock thingy loosely around the bar and the door reinforcement so that if it breaks again, at least it can't fall down and get mangled by the window.
Any one that is into preventative maintenance might want to do the same thing.
Good excuse for a fixit day perhaps?

what a ballbreaker... just got the clip in then, only figured it out after many angry words that you're supposed to put the clip in the hole, then the rod into the clip...
:@ :@ :@ :@
Ah well all the more satisfying in the end i guess.
maybe somebody should update the tutorial to include a section on how to get the clip in?

1) Find a friend with small double jointed wrists.
2) Practice and improve dexterity by putting on a bra and undoing it behind your back with one hand. (Don't get caught by your friends doing this, especially if you are a guy.)

How's it going folks?
I'm new to this forum, just saying hello and asking for any helpful advice.
I've a 1991 V8 limited and although the car's in perfect condition I've had the usual problems i.e. Water in the headlight a few electrical dramas but I've sorted them myself with out loosing too much hair.
My latest problem was the driver's door decided die on me, so I removed the door trim, and realised the plastic housing that popped into the rear of the handle had sheared,Same as Matt here above.
I therefore replaced the plastic housing and everything was fine, however, This was only a temp solution as now 2 months on the steel bar has snapped due to fatigue, almost identical to the photo shown in peter's how to guide. I therefore fabricated up a new section from a higher grade steel and welded it altogether, so I’m hoping this work’s.
I was curious though would anyone have a how to guide to get the door mechanism out and then apart to replace that bar. I haven’t had it out yet and it looks like a rivet rather than a screw holding it in place. Just asking first, because if I take it out and can’t get it back together or in easy again I’m going to be car-less for a while. Unfortunately there isn’t many Soarer wreakers in the middle of western Australia!
Thanks for any help folks and great site, keep up the good work!

Ryan, it is all screws/bolts, but I found one to be painted/rusted in and was hard to undo. Apart from that, it's just tricky and fiddly as I recall.
As a side note, I used a twistie to loosely tie that bar to the door frame, so if/when the plastic snaps again, the lever won't fall and try to commit suicide under the window.
It earned it's keep a couple of months ago when the plastic did break. Most likely once the bar gets bent, unless you get lucky and can bend it back to exactly the original shape, then I suspect it puts abnormal force on the clip shortening it's life span considerably.
