If you pull the door trims off you will most likely find broken pieces and the wood trim is often a little loose.
If there is a replacement stereo fitted then often the centre console gets damaged and things are secured properly.
I took both my doors apart and did a lot of gluing and tightening and same in the centre console. I use zip ties to secure wiring looms and place foam around unused connectors.

I had this same problem from when a front right guard was replaced before owning the car. When i opened the drivers door I could actually see a gap and almost all the way to the front wheel!!
I ened up simply buying some decent heavy duty foam/rubber and jammed it in there.... sounds kinda dodgy but worked well! *also stopped the water splashing in and damaging my carpet which was a bonus

Oh and as for rattles... i bought a heap of screws and pulled the door trims off ( as well as plenty of other panels) and found many of the screws were simply missing.
Once replaced and a few bits patched up it was much better

Yeah like a few have stated most if not all rattles are simply loose bits of interior. My almost 20 year old Soarer is quieter than my mums 4 years old mazda.
Just get someone to go for a drive with you and be your ears. and note where all the rattles are coming from. then you can give that area attention.
