Anyone got a good way of getting out the very tight butterfly nuts that hold the dash wood trim in? The left most nut is right near a group of wires that makes a crunching sound (cracking insulation) every time i put a pair of pliars anywhere near it.

Don't worry about the cracking sound, nothing's breaking. Just "crack" the nuts then use your fingers.

In my car they are 10mm nuts - not butterfly nuts. You may want to check you are trying the correct ones. Also - stupid question - but are you turning them anti-clockwise from the nut's perspective....?

Lawrence is right, they aren't always butterfly nuts, they can be 10mm nuts (which actually makes it easier if you have one of those tiny ratchet handles with 1/4" drive).

Presumably though, you've seen that yours has the butterflies.

Thanks guys, they were butterfly nuts alright but hardly designed for human fingers to turn. Got the bastards off, but to my dismay even after 'cracking' the nuts i found that half way through the damn bolts themselves began to turn freely in the wood. Anyhoo various tools, wd-40 and willpower won the day. Although i did break a few bits of plastic as well as the centre vent. I just want to make sure i do a god job on the thing as its never coming out again. Thanks again all
