hi guys,
Its been a project of mine to try do all the small tiddly DIY jobs myself.. I'm not all that great when it comes to these sorts of things, so i struggle at best!

I've recently hit a wall with trying to repair my drivers side door trim.. and just ruined it, hahah it's just soo much worse than it was.

Whilst scouring the forums and trying to be first in the score a drivers side door trim,I'm just wondering who or where I could purchase trims that will fit the soarer? Or if I were to order directly from toyota, how much would I expect to pay?

Cheers
K

..well after getting in touch with Toyota (Castle Hill), they have advised the trims are no longer in production, and when they were, they would set me back $2300 - per side.

Ok conflicting stories here, My best mate works in Toyota Parts here in perth. I bought one last month from City Toyota in perth. The pocket/ handle bit is 350 bucks, back board is 200.

this is minus the actual cussion bit of the armrest, and wood trim and speaker cover ($50)

And they are still in production and in stock, They have 3 spruce rh in melb, 4 LH melb. There are other colours avalible, from sydney and last resort they can get them from Japan

BTW my mate said, it just depends if the guys in parts can be arsed to go searching on system for import parts.

and prices vary from place to place, person to person.

Bought my airfilter from city toyota for 49 dollars.

Watermain burst outside of my house, filter got wet, watercorp went and bought me a new one, saw the receipt! $82

Ohh.. ok, maybe I asked for the wrong thing? Maybe for the WHOLE door? Although I did ask for the inside door trim.. hmm.
They did however get all the details (frame no., trim etc..) and get in contact with their homies in Japan.

I'll give perth a call.

..to be continued.

Got in contact with Perth City Toyota, and pretty much the same news. $2100 + GST, they were happy to sell at trade price ($1800). But still abit to much for me at the moment.

Just get a decent second hand trim Karl and then take it to a vinyl welder to repair/strenghten any cracks and problem areas. It will cost 1/4 the price of a new one and come up fairly good.

Karl i have recently pulled off the door trims, the amount of broken plastic bits would make you weep...actually they wouldnt cause you have seen this in your doors. However i reckon its all fixable, mostly the plastic is brittle around the screw holes. i cut out bits of metal with a cheap pair of tin snips and an olive oil can and glued them on with bostick no more nails. Every time i see a crack i judge whether its a cardboard or tin job then glue an appropriate shape on. I havent re mounted yet but i reckon its gunna look ok. If there are tears to the vinyl i reckon you should cover that yourself too.

I just paid $700 for both door trims to be fully fibreglassed and then retrimmed. I can actually shut the door know without having to worry about the door trim breaking.

Karl,
If your car has the Spruce (Greenish) interior, the part numbers to ask for are as follows.

RH: 67770- 24100- 07

LH: 67780- 24040- 07

Here's a parts pic.

If you've got a day off, I'd recommend taking the door trims off and fibreglassing the cracked bits. It's easy as, but fairly time consuming. The tabs on my passenger armrest had snapped right off, there was heaps of plastic missing so I had to build it up with fibreglass. All cracked bits were filled with Plastic Weld (available from supercheap), and the worst bits I reinforced with fibreglass as well. All up I spent about $25 and now have doortrims that feel almost like new

Thanks for all advice and tips guys, appreciate it muchly. I guess I'll just look at all my options and slowly work on my door trims myself, and if i come across another alternative I'll take it :-)

Much less messy than fibreglass is JB-Weld which is a two part epoxy filler which is reinforced with metal. A terrific product in my view. Not exactly cheap, and not always easy to find either (it's from US). I used it to reinforce the trims on my '97 before they cracked.

Before I posted this I checked on Ebay- JB Weld now available there at $11 for a pack, which is under the usual shop price, but $9 postage makes it something of a sting.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone know how much for the door trim section in spruce circled in red? Just found a new crack in mine up above the thin section of the speaker cover where there seems to be a small join when i cleaned my interior today. Must have happened not that long ago cause it wasn't cracked before. Does toyota still make these new? If so how much are they worth? thanks

i just bought a whole soarer, with only front end damage for 1200. The trims are, in comparison to mine, excellent condition and will probably have them sent to an upholsterer to have them reinforced etc..

I figure buying the whole car and pinching things here and there is alot cheaper than buying items bit by bit.

No worries, Scott. I'll let you know when I start to part it out. It will be a gradual process as I nit-pick thru what I can get from it.

Will keep SC posted.
