Hey guys I am making a custom door trim for a project car of mine (an RA40 celica) and was thinking of basing the design partially on the soarer's. But i am not sure what it is made of. Has anyone pulled the trim off a soarer door before. From the top does anyone know the material that goes around the window and where you rest your arm. Is there any padding material behind it or is it just the normal backing of the material that was used (i assume either vinyl or leather but i am not a connoisseur in fabrics.) next is the wood grain (this was obvious) Then you got that nice soft bit, again does anyone know what the material is and what is used behind it to pad it out? then the arm rest...here i assume leather but again i would love to know what is on the backing of it. and finally down the bottom is carpet (which i made a fairly substantiated educated guess on )
If anyone has ever pulled one apart or know the makeup of the door can you please let me know..cheers Damien

DAmien, I've got all my door trims off, I'll take a close up of them and then post it up for you. The dark grey is definitely not leather, it's a thin vinyl of sorts. I've peeled one end up to glue it. More with photo's tomorrow

Well i discovered how bad i am at taking photo's. The hand rest is leather, the rest is a material backed vinyl (like a thin cotton gauze) The top door trim is just a VERY thin vinyl with no backing . I have 3 photo's for you that might help, one of the lower door front, another of the rear of the panel near the handle with the vinyl turned back to expose the gauze. the third is the back of the top trim with the corner turned back (plus lots of glue on the cracks)

does any of those 2 drunken photos show what is behind the really soft bit? (what you rest your arm up against where the really soft padding is) when you say gauze can you get a photo of that as well ... i am thinking of the stuff you buy in rolls down at the local 'spotlight' store mate you are a legend for this by the way. so to recap vinyl for the trim around the window with no backing vinyl with gauze behind the soft padded bit with a leather armrest sound about right?

Yep sounds right, upon closer inspection though the upper trim seems to have a thin film coating on the back. the yellowness in both is the adhesive. I'm pretty sure the soft bit is just a light, shaped foam.
